Spotted an old time only Rolex this week

As a part time job while in university I work at a nursing/retirement home from time to time. Was helping an old fellow out the other night and noticed that his watch was stopped as his crown was pulled out, so I wound it, set the time on it and screwed the crown back down on it for him. Didn't recognize the reference but I'm assuming its a semi-bubble back?

I rarely see high end watches in the wild where I live so always try to compliment any that I notice when I do. Had a chat with him about watches for a bit, he mentioned his was ~75 years old, I mentioned my collection was a couple Rolex and a couple Omega and he mentioned that Omega was a good watch too.

Anyways heres the watch, just figured I would share the watch and experience as unless I visit the AD, I don't really get a chance to talk watches in person with anyone really.

Snapped a pic after I set it for him

That's a cool story. Has he been the owner since new?

Can't say for sure but that would be my guess.

I would be quirious to know the service history. Wonder how many times it was serviced in those 75 years?

Wow, if that watch could talk the stories it'd be able to tell!

By Rolex? Probably not many, he mentioned his son fixes watches. When I sent the GMT I inherited in from my grandfather into RSC I believe they said they hadn't serviced it themselves since like 1985 (it was purchased in 1979), this was 2012 that I sent it in for service and to repair the stripped tube and stem.

Would this be a 6084? I am not sure if it is solid gold or gold capped or what, thinking gold capped considering the TT bracelet, I don't think the case back was steel though but I didn't really spend a long time inspecting the watch, just kind of set it for him and discreetly snapped the pic with my phone before putting it back on his wrist.

Great story. And props to the OP. Those that take care of the elderly have my highest respect.

More like 60 years on this early-mid '50s model.

That's the first thing that hit me, (mid 50's) and I didn't realize they used the square hands at this point.

Looks like a mid 50s 6084 - with a depth rating. Hmmm

Cool running across these older pieces in the wild - and the people that own them.

My dog's previous Vet had an older 70s-80s Plexi D / DJ that was a daily wearer and probably had not been cleaned much. Probably had a bunch of animal germs cultivating on it.

I don't see any reworked dial but the pic isn't a macro - and my eyes aren't what they used to be

OP - thanks for sharing!
