Really like the design of the 5205, it has great detailing especially the lugs when viewed side on. I have seen many pictures on this site of the rose gold version, but personally,I prefer the White gold. Is the rose gold version more popular?

probably the best dress piece with AC and moon phase around from Patek, even I wouldn't mind having one and I'm really not into dress pieces

I've tried on this watch. The immediate visual impact was great and not difficult to see this is created to appeal to the younger and trendy Patek collectors.
However upon examing the watch closely a few things bug me: 1. Price is high in its peer group and does not come with deployant clasp unless I pay an extra $3,000. 2. The hollow lugs reduce the amount of precious metal. 3. Military time is not super useful in my daily routine. Despite the above, they are not deal breakers and I may still consider this model if I am in the market for an annual calendar. |

The black dial (my favorite) draws you in. The only downside IMO is that it's a little difficult for me to read. But who cares when it looks so good!

A great looking watch. Prefer the black dial but it is a little difficult to read. I favor the RG versions with solid dials.

I love the WG versions. Unfortunately, PP has overproduced them.

Could you elaborate on this? I've definitely seen more WG versions available at ADs than the RG but I thought that was more a function of demand than production volumes. Supposedly WG demand has cooled lately according to my AD's sales manager.

They are ubiquitous and in every AD's case. This has caused the aftermarket price to crater. The RG black is more difficult to produce, owing to the lacquer dial, so supply is more limited and aftermarket price is much higher.

Ah. Didn't realize there was a production difference owing to the dial. Thanks.

I did not know that about the lacquer dial. Thanks for the info. Agree that the WG versions are more common. I may have to pick up the WG version at a good price

Amazing dial. I love this watch. Unfortunately, though, imho it wears 'much' smaller than its 40mm case specs would suggest.

As Ian says the laquer dial on the RG really makes this watch for me, gives it a more dynamic modern vibe. WG version and colours were a bit underwhelming. As it wears smaller than 40mm and is quite thick I think this might also suffer from the old Dato's problem of proportion, and like that it might benefit from a thicker strap to balance it out.

That's very much my take on it as well which is why I went with the 5227r first. It appears larger than the 5205 despite it's 39mm size (vs 40mm).
Note I said "first". I think the 5205r is fabulous looking and I look forward to getting one. |

A hint of things to come, Mike? Congrats! The 5205 is gorgeous.
