Vintage Movado Kingmatic
Hello all - still new to the Forum...
Have been trying to research the Movado Kingmatic I inherited from my grandfather in the mid-1990's. I believe he purchased it when he traveled to Europe in the early 1960s (I think they also came back with a Jaguar Mk. IX, which was passed down to my parents when we were little, but that's another story). I don't know much about it, and I see that recent Movado watches are somewhat maligned as "mall watches", but I gather they were a good brand back then. I am not interested in value or selling, due to sentimental value, but am just curious about the watch... I don't remember him not having it on except in the pool - it was certainly his everyday watch! I had it serviced by Govberg Jewelers back in 1997 ($150!). I rarely wear it, and it keeps good time. Is there any reason to worry about having it serviced again? The marking on the bottom left lug is "65432" - any clue what that means? Excuse the cheap leather band - it was on the CDL 14k band, but I wanted something a little less flashy for when I wear it. |

No input?
Just getting ready to wear it to a family funeral and wondering about some of the history of the brand... Would be thrilled to learn more about it!

Curious again
I'm still curious if there is any interesting history to this old Movado, besides the obvious family history. When did Movado jump the shark?
Also, I think a decent leather band is in order. An old size apparently. Any suggestions that would do justice to this old classic? Last edited by Chuckred; 12 August 2015 at 01:49 PM.. Reason: Added question |
