Spring bar hole question

One of the spring bar holes on the 6:00 side of my 5.3 million serial Day-Date 18078 is wearing. It's slightly oval and there is some play in the bracelet end link (very slight but noticeable). A question for the experts - is this bad for a watch from 1977 and if so, what can be done to prevent further damage? I've read a little about laser welding. Is that an option and would you recommend it, something else, or nothing? Thanks

Laser welding, or also using slightly larger GOLD springbars to prevent further damage. Steel bars wear into the gold. With gold springbars, the bars wear out, much better for the case;)
