Just Purchesed Un Used X serial DateJust Need Information

Hi Newbie here. This is an all SS model 16220 I think its a mid 1991. Watch was never worn still in box with all papers and information. Here is my question How do I tell if I have the plastic or mineral crystal? To me it appears to be a mineral crystal because the surface looks totally flat and I think the plastic crystals have a slight bubble curve to them. Anyone know for sure?

'91 model would be definitely fitted with the Sapphire crystal.

Simple test......just flick the crystal with the nail of your index finger. A sapphire crystal will make a solid thud-like sound. An acrylic crystal will make a "clackety" like sound.

Wrong again, Eddie!

That's JJ's "Sheep Test" you're referring to there, mate!

I just envisioned people all over the world licking their Rolex crystal. Well played, sir!

/Only reason I didn't do it was because I know mine is sapphire

Hi, a "X" serial is a 1991 yr. mfd. watch, Rolex changed from plexi to crystal in 1977.
So your watch surely has to be crystal.

Are you sure that's not "1987"?

My 1986 TT mid size DJ was advertised at the time as being one of the first Rolex models with sapphire crystals, even before the full size DJ.
