$10K-$12K budget--which Rolex should I get?
First post but a lurker for a bit...my company is buying me a Rolex [up to $10K] for performance and it will be the first one I have bought "for me"--I have my late Father's Stainless and Gold Datejust which I love but it's not an "everyday" watch--I use it for more dressy occasions.
As a big chronograph fan, I have always loved the Daytona. It seems like they are relatively rare and often at full punt [$14K-ish if I have read correctly?] at authorized dealers. I like the Submariner as well, just think I want a Daytona more...anyone have opinions/thoughts? I wish I had the scratch for a Paul Newman but alas, that will have to wait :) Thanks in advance for any thoughts and advice! |

Welcome to the forum no modern day Rolex is rare not even the Daytona should be plenty around now.Its been in production for 15 years and not changed much since 2000 when it was launched. And any change is purely cosmetic so there must be many many thousands of them around world wide.I am sure one of our trusted sellers could source one for you have a look in the Rolex for sale forum.

Sounds like the Daytona is the one. I believe the retail is more like 12k ish.
Nice gesture on your company's part, by the way. |

You'll likely bust the budget by a few k on the Daytona but if that is doable, or you can cover the difference, by all means get one. Otherwise, you'll always be thinking what if?

Sounds like you want the Daytona. Do it if you can swing it! If 10k is a hard limit, you'd have to go used, though; not sure if that's an option.
Any pics of your two-tone Datejust? Welcome to TRF. |

You said it yourself "a big chronograph fan"...go for the Daytona.
You should be able to get one around 10.5k with the trusted sellers. If you want the AD "experience" it will be a couple thousand more. |

Have you tried on a Daytona....do you need a date?
It wears smaller than a Sub, and dials aren't as big as they look in pics. You can find plenty here for 10K, reach out to trusted seller. It's a great looking watch, but make sure you like on your wrist. Sub and GMT Master are Great options for under 10K especially for everyday wear. I wish I had your problem |

You have plenty of time. Go to several AD's and look around. See what tickles your fancy. I guarantee that one watch will stand out and sing to you over the others. There is your answer. Welcome to TRF.

I'd go for either a no date sub or a daytona white dial.

WOW so many responses thank you! I really appreciate the feedback. My wrist is relatively small so I don't want a sun dial on my hand...I will post a pic of the actual Datejust that I have, but here is a link to the same one:
I am a big car guy and as such have always drooled over Daytonas...I'll go to the local Authorized Dealer and try a few on. Keep the opinions coming -- I really appreciate the warm welcome! |

If you can, fork over the extra 2k to buy brand new from AD! They are 12k new...find a dealer that will let u have it out the door for this amount (order from another state to save tax/negotiate with AD). It will be worth it!
If you can't put in the extra money wait! And if for whatever reason you can't wait, Get a Sub! First World Problems! jaja |

Have and love both, the Daytona I prefer to describe as "sleeker" wears and fits better than just "smaller" it is that size for a reason, form and function compared to the watches with bezels it will always look smaller but again for a reason. my son wears his on an 8.5 inch wrist and both watches look great |

Are you buying from an AD in MASS? Or are you considering a trusted seller here?

I would try on the Daytona, Sea-Dweller 4000, GMT BLNR and Blue Dial Yachtmaster. Then take out your checkbook. Good luck!

for that budget, you cant go wrong with a 2 tone Ceramic Submariner.

I'd recommend that you find what you want and see if you can pay the difference (if there is one) for exactly the one you found.
Congrats!
