5196p used vs 5196r feom AD?

5196p box paper 2007..clean sample...some light scuffs on bezel.

5196r. brand new from AD.

Same price.

5196p used vs 5196r feom AD?

It's probably only me, but the Breguet numerals on the 5196P remind me of my grandmother's Timex from the 1970's. A fond memory of Granny, but not of the watch...

Was it recently serviced by Patek? I would only want Patek to service it. If there's no service history I'm not keen on sending my exciting new-to-me timepiece on an eight-month sabbatical.
I would rather have new, pink gold, and no Breguet markers. So 5196R new from the AD would be my choice this time.

I saw a 5196J used in nice shape for $13,000. Something to think about, the 5196 is a commonly available model, if you are comfortable with a pre-owned watch you'll be able to track down a 5196r

When I perused the Calatrava line I concluded the 5196p is the one I would want.

I'd only buy a new Patek. But, if you don't care about pre-owned, then go with the P.

According to google, 5196r retails for $21,900 and 5196p retails for $36,800.
For $15k I can put up with a few scuffs.
Go with the 5196p

Love the breguet numerals, so P for me.

But its imortant for YOU to decide which looks best on YOUR wrist. Also, if you have not done so already, this could be a good opportunity to start establishing a long relationship with your AD.

I like the 5196r more. I have seen both and find the silver dial with rose gold make the watch look very nice. Kind of vintage look to me.

Anyone knows if the 5196p uses platinum spring bars and platinum crown?
The shop is dropping another 1.5k but he says the spring bars are stainless steel(wtf?) and so is the crown. Also..the strap that is on looks like crap..
Otherwise it looks sublime.
Also in his shop...a 5115j enamel dial at the price of a 5196r from AD.
Comments?

I called my local PP service center. They said the 5196p uses white gold spring bars originally.

Why not platinum?
