SD tested at 4000 Feet
Actually it is 4000 feet ABOVE sea level.
Summer of 2007 my wife and I visited my parents in Norway and we went to this place called "Prekestolen." Translated "The Pulpit" It is a rock formation that is flat and looks like the seat of a chair WAY above the Lysfjorden Fjord just outside of Stavanger. It took about 2 hours of hiking to get to. The amazing thing is there are NO gardrails or security there. Just a bunch of people hiking for 2 hours to look down the face of this rock. Some people sit on the edge and dangle their feet off the end. Not me, I crawled and put my head over the edge. Still pretty scary. People have been coming to this place for years everyday to just look. My Mom (65) even made the journey. Below are some pictures. I hope you enjoy them. Here is one who is a little braver than I am.
I tried to get to the edge but it is amazing how dizzy you get. Your heart starts beating faster and you feel like there is wind at your back pushing you toward the edge. My wife and Dad just standing to the right of this guy sitting there. |

Breath taking !!! I would love to visit one day, but must wait until the kids are well old enough to understand the magnitude of that height (youngest is 2 and he thinks it's funny to run from mommy and daddy looking back at us

Glad you all enjoyed them.
My Mom was so proud to tell her friends that she made it. The hiking was up to 30 degree inclines and up and over 4 passes. Everytime she was getitng tired we told her it is right around the next corner. Answers: Yes that is me in the AF shirt, and YES there is a SD on my wrist in one of the pictures and the wife in the other. If she knew I posted the picture with her "bad hair day" for everyone to see she would probably be upset at me??? It was raining when we arrived then got sunny. Typical weather in Norway. -Base jumping would not be good since there is only water below. -I do not know of anyone falling off accidentally. -Not a good place for young kids to run around. |

Hi.
Nice pictures. I'm from Norway and I think it might interest you to know that the whole "rock" is exspected to fall into the fjord "sometime in the future". (You can clearly see the crack running across the rock at the pictures.) No one can say if it's gona happen in a week or 50 years, but it's going to happen "not to far from now". When it happens the village on the other side of the fjord will be hit by the floodwave generated by such a rock falling 4000 feet into the water. We expect no survivers.
