And yet, another fallen Hero

Seems like this news is getting more common place everyday. I can remember a time, not too long ago, when a police officer fatality was national news for days. In recent years it appears to have not only increased but the media has come to the point where they are almost desensitized to it, as are many civilians.
Rest in peace Sgt. Lunger and thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice.

This isn't the proper thread for your social frustrations, start a separate thread if you want to venture on the political side. You'll get all the attention you want. You might as well be a member of the Westboro church bringing that up in this thread.

Any untimely death is tragic but these are the simple stats from various police sources:

Officers killed by gunfire numbers unchanged in last 10yrs
Total officers killed on duty down around 20%

No pissing on this thread.

There's plenty of room to create threads about abuse/mis-use of authority as these things do indeed happen too often, though there are clear line which not to cross with your commentary.

I'll not be surprised if the guy is gone by the time I finish this response, though.

It's pathetic to think that we ask this thread to be a remembrance thread and a few of you have to turn it into hate. Sure there are bad apples in every job but we do a job where we see more in one day than you will see your entire life.

Threads like these can get derailed quickly, but the word hero has lost its meaning.

Any loss of life in circumstances like this is tragic. Especially when someone is doing a job that benefits public safety.

I support law enforcement as much as any level headed person, but not every law enforcement officer is not a hero. Dying tragically during a traffic stop isn't heroic.

That word gets thrown around too carelessly these days and its insulting to those officers who truly do heroic things.

I agree but I hate when people talk crap about police. There are bad Drs, bad businessmen, bad CEOs, bad EVERYTHING.

People jump to conclusions way before all the evidence is provided. The loss of any life is tragic no matter "bad guy or good guy." But simply let us mourn the loss of our brother..... For **** sake.

If you didn't realize a traffic stop was made and the BAF GUY tried to kill the cop. That's not normal. I'm sure you don't go to work every day hoping that your secretary doesn't decide to try to kill you.

Sorry, I take this personal, rant over.

Your PM received Marc and I agree with you 100% and so as to not sink to the level of a certain member here I'll just leave it at that. To all my military, LEO and FF brothers out there please be safe, you never know who you're dealing with.

And yet, another fallen Hero

I wonder when the last time Gregsubc had a gun pulled on him simply because he responded to a call for assistance. Not fun. Or how about the time you show up because someone is threatening suicide, then they look at you and say, "goodbye" and blow their entire head off in front of you.

Those images last with us and Change us forever. I'm sorry if the toughest decision of your day is if you want the tall or small Starbucks.

Okay, I'm going to step back in now.
If you don't want to read my "drivel" then don't click on the thread. It's as easy as that. You have your opinion and I have mine. For the record, I do NOT condone what some of the police officers of late have been charged with. I think some of their actions go beyond deplorable. IMO, it's a very, very small percentage of police officers who do this.

QUOTE from Syed:

END QUOTE:

Syed, I have nothing but respect for you but again, I differ with your opinion. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE who is out there putting their life on the line day in and day out to protect me and my family are hero's to me if they fall in the line of duty. That includes police officers, firefighter, anyone in our armed forces, paramedics, even tow truck drivers. I could go on and on with more examples but I won't.
I guess you and I just look at the definition of "hero" differently.

But, since you DID put it out there, what IS your definition of a hero? And I'm not being smart-assed or sarcastic. I really want to know.

Or is it a deep need to set the world straight and make them understand your plight?

This is the General Topics forum, we often address non-watch related topics and news here and differing opinions are welcome when they are presented thoughtfully and with clear meaning. You decided to trash the sentiment immediately and rail against the OP who a decent guy and a good friend to many here, so again what are you hoping to accomplish with your pattern of decent and anger.
