Cal. 2135 Crown Position Issues

I have a ladies datejust Ref. 69173 circa 1987. The crown winds but the 2nd and 3rd position aren't there with actual stopping points. When I say that, I mean there's a lot of play between positions 2 and 3 and there aren't those definitive position point. It kind of slides in and out freely but the crown does "click" when put down to position 1 where it can be wound. After that, it's like a trombone. I'm just sliding to where the positions are instead of the stem finding those positions. Let me specify that it doesn't slide out. It's fine in that regard. The quickset feature isn't even working. I don't know if this is a crown and stem issue. The stem looks fine so I'm uncertain if its a spring or something else within the movement or crown that is causing this issue.

If anyone has some insight and experience to this problem, please let me know.

I will be taking it to a qualified watchmaker soon but I'm also looking to widen my knowledge in Rolex movement issues and the possible fixes and troubleshooting that comes along with them.

Thanks!

Sounds like it needs service, keyless works could be clogged with old grease and dust which can cause these kind of problems.

Lubrication is possible as is a broken setting lever or worn out crown so that the inner and outer rotate separately.

When you say the stem looks fine, did you actually take it out completely to inspect?
