5196..too big

Had a chance to try on a 5196 at boutique today.
Case was flat with lugs not adapting to wrist well..leaving gaps wide opened. Looks and feels like a 40mm watch..which is dreadful for a dress watch.

Dial lacks contrast and very difficult to read. Too much empty spaces on dial as well.

Really wanna love this but gotta past. :(

I had the exact same experience. It's a shame really because I so wanted to like the 5196 when it was first introduced. I even came close to purchasing the platinum version but didn't for the reasons you mentioned. I think with better proportion and an appropriately sized movement, it could be a winner.

Pics would be nice & which version are you referring to?

My thought is no worries at all, there are so many great Pateks available in smaller sizes that I would consider if they fit me ... Plenty for you to choose from

Curious what version as well...in my experience, the p wore smaller than the g, maybe less open space on the dial

What size is your wrist? I thinking the flatter case profile would sit better and come off as a well proportioned "small" dress watch for folks that have larger size wrists.

well too dressy for me but it's a nice dress watch, I have 6.9 wrists and for me I would prefer 39-40 to anything less but again I'm not a huge dress fan...

Abt 7.5...but it just looks overwhelming. Just me im sure. Others may find it absoultely fine.
My rounded wrist top could be the problem.

I think the 5196 look the best in RG. I rememebr I tried this version many years ago , in fact more than 10 years I guess and the RG match the silver colour dial very well.
