Miligauss GV: Black vs. Z-Blue

So I find myself liking the humble Milgauss more and more every time I see one in the AD. I haven't gotten to the point of being a serious buyer, but you all know how these things are.

I searched all Milgauss posts to date and found useful info. I'm curious to know if any of you were trying to decide black vs. blue, and what it was that tipped you one way or the other? Also, for those of you who bought, what are your impressions after owning awhile?

I don't like the orange hour markers on the black dial. Maybe if they were the same shade as the second hand.

I went with the z blue.

I like black because of the contrast with the orange!

my zblue gets more attention than the dblue and one of the watches that I never plan to flip..a touch of orange can make the orange hand relevant

PS. im extremely biased towards blue :)

Very personal choice
I went black after wanting the blue
After trying the blue on 3 different times it felt too 'baby blue' so black it was.
I do love the milgauss though!
Try them on multiple times.

I had the black dial GV before the Z-blue was released. This really is a toss up. I'd probably go with the Z-blue dial if I were purchase the Milgauss again as it would add more variability to my existing collection.

Final answer: first Rolex, go black dial. Part of a larger collection: go Z-blue.

I have the black dial GV, prefer that over the blue.

I have the Blue and strongly considered the black, but choose the Blue for various reasons. Mainly due to its uniqueness and ever changing character depending the the lighting. Also, it just looks more sophisticated vs the black version.

I suggest that you also try the white Milgauss. Once I tried it and fell in love with it.

I was in the same dilemma myself until I caught the blue in the perfect light. Sealed the deal for me. You can't go wrong with either though they are both gorgeous pieces! Good luck choosing

I really like the Blue....the orange lightning bolt second hand holds me back from complete Milgauss love.

I saw both in person and went with the black; my purchase was a year ago... Part of this is because I had spent years wanting the black, and then when the blue came out it was like something other than what I wanted. I'm usually adaptable, but my brain was conditioned that the black GV simply was THE best Milgauss, specifically the one I had been working towards, and this new blue one was just a novelty. However, I liked the blue a lot, and both are awesome watches, very tough decision.

Lately, I find myself looking up the blue one often, which makes me wonder if I have a "grass is greener" thing going on, fear of missing out, etc. The reason the black GV won for me was because I'm a huge fan of the color green, and the blue dial seems to make the watch more blue than green; almost like the blue dial steals some of the show from the tinted glass. I wanted the green Milgauss, not blue, if that makes sense despite both having the same crystal... Also, the Lightning bolt hand and the text elements have more contrast on the black dial, whereas the blue dial mutes these elements a bit. I see a lot of people say they don't like the Orange markers at 3, 6, &9, but I feel like those balance the dial and give it some weight on the lower half, to offset the crown applied at the 12 with three lines of text. I don't think either watch is a wrong choice, both are my favorite Rolex, just comes down to having to make a decision, or eventually finding a way to justify owning both- still working on that.

I should also say, when I bought mine the blue was new and pretty hard to get. I don't know if it's easier to find now, but it's interesting that Rolex is positioning the Z-blue as the flagship or default Milgauss. Maybe it's just my impression, but when I pull up their site or click details on the Milgauss it seems like they are giving the blue dial center stage spotlight. I'll always feel like the black GV is the original green glass and the one their design team felt was best because it was their initial version. However, for some reason I keep picturing a blue in my collection at some point... Bit of a redundant post here, but it really is a tough decision. If they resign the black GV from production it would be great, having two green glass models seems to complicate the buying decision and makes the concept seem less exclusive.

Howdy,

I love this watch too and it definitely is one that grows on you. I tend to gravitate to the obscure (probably because I'm a lefty and being different was ingrained in me from day one) so its one that really appeals to me.

That said, I am undecided on the color. If I based it on their website I would go black all the way. But in person it was disappointing due to the matte finish. It does, however, really make the green crystal "pop" which, to me, is a big part of the watch's charm.

The Blue looks amazing in some pictures and not so much in others. In person I liked it but didn't love it, at least not yet. Interestingly, its my daughter's favorite watch and color but she is also eleven and will have to settle for American Girl dolls for now.

Finally, I suspect the one thing about the blue and orange that prevents me from being all in is that the color scheme reminds me too much of the Denver Broncos which, for obvious reasons, isn't something I am cool with.

Take care,

Ruddiger

I love both of them, I'm going with the black because of the orange hour markers make the dial pop a little more for me.

Howdy,

Quick question regarding the two models, are the orange 3, 6 and 9 markers illuminated on the black dial? I assume all eleven of them are on the Z blue but wasn't sure on the black.

Take care,

Ruddiger

Yes, all the markers have lume on the black. A few years ago the black GV had mixed lume, meaning the Orange markers were blue and the rest were green, lots of pictures online show this. On the newer black GV models they have all blue lume, pretty sure in 2013 was when they went all one color on the lume.

The zblue grows on you with each wear. Really beautiful. But I always think of the Miami Dolphins due to similar color schemes between the two. Still, it's a really beautiful piece in a really "pretty" way, which you can't really say about most Rolex sport watches. It also
wears very well for formal occasions too.
