Is this Pepsi gmt good?

Hi guys. I'm thinking about delving into the world of vintage and came across this watch. It is supposedly from 1972, dial and hands are original, crystal and original bezel insert and plexi are included in sale as parts and Rolex oem plexi and insert currently installed also just serviced. Also comes with original warranty but no box. Does dial and hands look good to the pros here? Does case and bracelet look appropriate? Any range on current pricing? Thanks so much for any opinions!!

I own a vintage Pepsi GMT (1988) but I don't profess to be an expert; however the dial, hands, and bracelet look good to me. Nice, evenly-patinaed tritium hand inserts and hour markers, and the open-6 and-9 date wheel, weigh in favour of authenticity. Cyclops magnification looks a bit off but likely just the angle of view. Agree with other poster that you might get a more authoritative response from the Vintage Forum if your concern is about its authenticity (although that's always difficult to confirm from pictures alone). I think it's a real beauty, but do hope it's real!

That is a very (did I say very) rare version of the 1675 series known as the Mk-2.5 dial. Why MK-2.5, because during a discussion on another forum it was determined that it came between the MK-2 and Mk-3. It wasn't until about 2 years ago that collectors believed this version to be a refinished dial. But a few started coming out with their "questionable" dial... and voila! Why rare? Because you definitely do not see many around..

Congrats on the find and hope you buy!

Wow. So this dial is not refinished but somehow rare?

Looks like a winner with the Mark 2.5!!! Source a correct insert and you are good to go - unless you decide you need a correct bracelet too!

Time to go and springer you guys are big time studs in these parts so I appreciate the comments earlier. So the package would include original faded insert and original plexi, along with original warranty paperwork. I'm concerned about polish job, refinished dial and hand and just about anything else a 40 year old watch can scare me with. It has however had a recent service at an AD where original parts have been saved in a baggy. I would hate to spend 7 k on a watch that's only worth 3k... I'm used to all the ease, glitz and glamour of the ceramic models of today but am certainly in awe of vintage and the adventurous seventies models in particular. Any more thoughts??

Yes, it has had some polish but it is serviced. Understand this watch is nearly 50 years old. Not all watches are perfect, unpolished, yadda yadda. I think this is a nice example and something you would be proud of owning.

Do you guys have a link to the dial variations. I have a late 72 that I should review for dial correctness. Harry

Hi guys . I just found out that the warranty paper has a 5.2 million handle. I pm'd and spoke to one of the guys here but i wanted to get other thoughts since im still a little confused. The seller seems to think the watch is from 1972 and the dial would appear to be that 2.5 mark dial from 72-73. So why the 5.2 million on the warranty paper?? A little concerned and thanks again guys for the opinions!!!!

I think you need to see the serial number on the watch.

Ok i got the story now. The case has a 3.3 million serial which is more in line with dial and original purchase in 72'. paperwork is for a 1974 service on the watch that was done in london rsc and had punched numbers in the 5.0 million but must have been referred to that specific job order but again is in french of which i dont speak :-).....The paperwork which looks just like a warranty is in fact a guarantee of the service job done in '74 with a 2 year guarantee of the work. The watch has a few more services over the years all done at rsc around the world. But there is no original paperwork for original sale. Hmmm.
