London Lunch

Well, we did it. We had the first international TRF meeting in London on 20th February 2006. In attendance, from left to right, were Ed (Rockrolex), Peter (Padi), Rob (RobDadd) and Arleen (Mrs. Rockrolex). The venue was Mela, a good Indian restaurant on Shaftesbury Road. We were having such a good time talking that we forgot to take more than the one picture. It was great to finally meet up with people we've known for years. A good time was had by all. With any luck we can make this an annual gathering.

London Watch Report

Now for a report on the London watch scene. In my travels, I stopped in at two places: the Rolex shop in the Royal Arcade (between Albermarle and New Bond Streets); and the Rolex AD on New Bond Street, just around the corner from the Rolex shop in the Arcade.

The Royal Arcade shop deals mostly in previously owned Rollies and other watches. But they did have brand spanking new LV in the window. I asked the price. As I recall, it was GBP3500 (close to USD7,000). No bargains to be had there. At the AD, I inquired whether they had a Leopard in stock. The gentleman said he did not but had sold two of them recently - one to a woman. He said it looked great on her. Thinking about it, I imagine it would have as a piece of gaudy jewelry.

The AD was very nice. He volunteered a catalog to Arleen after we had been discussing the only Rolex she would be interested in - the YG Lady DJ with diamond lugs and diamond markers. She wasn't going to take it, but I immediately put out my hand and said "I'll take it, thank you."

To sum up: No deals but seemed to be a good selection of most models.

Thanks, D. It's good to be home, I think, although I was so busy today that I didn't have a chance to post all day. And now, I'm still partly on London time, which makes it somewhere between 2AM and 4AM ET.

So TTFN, I'm off to beddy bye.

I'm glad you all had a good time. It's a pity we could not meet up but my flight to London was held up when it landed and we were 1 1/2 hours on the plane before they got buses to take us off. When we got to terminal three, there was a queue a mile long waiting to get through security. It was then we decided we had better join the queue or we might miss our flight.

I'm definitely going to try for next year.

Must say Ed,Arleen and Rob it was a pleasure meeting you.We had a
great meal and a long talk.So long, the restaurant started to flash there lights on and off.Do you think they was trying to tell us something.Going back on the train to Wales, started to sneeze and cough, and now have a terrible cold, must have been breathing that English air. That would be a great idea to have a Annual gathering, perhaps next time we can fill the restaurant, once
again thanks for the pleasure of meeting you all..

How come we don't have the traditional picture of all the watches laid down on the table?

I think they tried JJ but all the radiation from Ed's shirt fried the electronics in their cameras after the first photo was taken......

JJ took up all the picture space on this forum with his Sub pics. And we all knew what our watches look like so we didn't need reminders. But in case you're wondering, I wore (guess what?) - you're right - my GMT; Peter wore his Unicorn (and carried his Poljot in his pocket to show me that it was still running after 6 months ); and Rob had on his Sub. I think you've seen them all before, and we didn't want to bore everyone with the same old pics.

Arleen was wearing her Cartier Tank (I'm still trying to win the lottery to get her the YG Lady Date with diamond lugs and diamond markers).
