Should I trade my DJII for a Sub?

Hi

So after only having my DJ II fluted bezel white stick dial for about 6 months. I've had to urge to try to trade it straight up and get a Sub Date 116610LN.

Reasoning:
My work is pretty rough in terms of me physically using my hands as I'm in the property development field but I deal with the construction part of the business. Almost like a project manager. Even though I'm not physically doing the construction. I find myself always getting in there carrying stuff flooring and tile up and down stairs, help paint rooms, and doing plumbing. I have a contractors lisense and sometimes time lines get really tight and I need to jump in there to motivate the construction crew that as a boss I could do anything they could do to make sure we finish on schedule. So I've realized that a polished center link is so easily scratched it bothers me. Also I have a DD and there pretty much the same watch.

How resistant is the ceramic bezel to scratches and nicks? Is it really that strong? I love the fluted bezel look but again the problem is I'm afraid to bang it around and I don't have the time to think about should I do anything physical in fear of really banging my watch around.

What's your opinion? How does the sub 116610 wear compared to the DJII? Is it very heavy compared to the DJII? I really don't want a heavy watch as my daily.

Do it. Sounds like the ruggedness of the sub would suit your line of work. Plus, who doesn't like a change?

I think a Sub is perceived as a more rugged but Truthfully I'm not so sure theres much of a difference as all Rolex are designed to withstand everyday use.

For one, a Sub has more moving parts than a DJ2 and ceramic inserts are expensive to repair.

I'd consider an explorer or explorer 2 if you're looking for something that might take the bump and bruises of your profession.

I second the G-Shock! Returning to Rolex, however, I don't see the Sub as an improvement aside from water resistance. Moreover, the bezel is prone to catching on more and getting knocked about compared to the smooth sloping bezel of a DateJust--unless your DJ is fluted. I think a slimmer watch would be a better choice, like an Oyster Perpetual 39mm or Explorer I.

Sounds like the sub is the right choice. Especially since you have a DD for that dressier look and then the sub is your everyday work, fun and casual watch.

I think the Sub (or even a SeaDweller) would be a better option mainly in that I'd be ok with it being marked a bit vs a polished watch that gets scratched up. In my view, I see the DJ as more of a "dressy" watch for the office, etc.

And since you have a DD, I think a Sub would be a good complement to the DD.

The G Shock suggestion isn't a bad one either

As for the weight, the Sub does have weight to it that actually I'm still getting used to. Not s bad "getting used to" but certainly it has weight that I noticed (and am enjoying) but if that is a concern, try it on and see what you think.

I wear my sub every day, it is a 16610, no ceramic bezel. Some days I'm in the office, and others hopping from job site to job site to check progress. I work with it on and don't think twice.

My dad just picked up a DJ II. I'm not sure if it's the fact of it being TT and the gold seeming fragile or what. But I feel that the Sub is just more rugged overall. It will wear a little thinker and probably a little heavier, but it is a great, super versatile piece. Your choice, but I would make the change..

Sub over datejust every time. I love the sub. I've been pretty hard on my ceramic sub and DSSD and still no damage to the insert. I thought I scratched the crystal on the DSSD while shark diving and turns out it was just paint transfer from banging it against the cage. Buffed right out.

I own a couple of subs and they are great. BUT from someone that was once in that exact line of work, the suggestion of a g-shock was spot on.

The Sub will get nicked up just as easily as the DJ, with the added danger of losing the expensive bezel with a hard enough knock. The chances of that happening are increased due to the Sub's height sitting on the wrist. The Sub has superior water resistance, but that's where it ends.

An explorer with no bezel and brushed bracelet seems to be a better fit for what you're concerned about.

Im pretty fixed on the brushed bracelet which is what i notice most with my current watch with polished center links.

Now that its a unanimous decision. Who wants to trade there Sub for my DJII? Do you guys think i can get a straight up trade? I believe they around the same value when looking them up on watch recon.

So far the only damage I've seen to the SubC bezel insert have been breaks which require insert replacement. That said, I had a 114060 and a 14060 at the same time and felt the SubC felt ungainly on my wrist. I traded it for the DJII and feel that it is considerably more comfortable. My wrist is fairly small at 6.5 in. Really it's all about your tolerance. Personally I would not.

This is interesting. I also have a small wrist at 6.5. I do think my DJ II is pretty comfortable. Im very concerned about the comfort as i will be wearing it all day long.
