Sea Dweller 50th Birthday
Hi everyone
I've lurking for several weeks trying to select a model for my first Rolex. Thank you for all information on this forums. Like some people here, I've been wanting a Rolex for a long time. For me it was tough to come to this point where I'm ready to purchase one. Yet it so much tougher to choose one. Like most people with this problem, I feel like we are over analyzing the selection process but I can't help it. I started with GMT-C black vs Sub-C black, then BLNR vs Sub-C, then Sub-C vs SD4k. The Sub-C is probably the answer but I feel like I'm looking for something more (not that there's any wrong with the Sub-C). Now I'm stuck. I've tried them all but I cannot seem to come to a decision. Anyway, I will keep at it and that's just a little background for my first post. Throughout my research, I noticed that the SD was created in 1967. Next year will be its 50th birthday. Is anyone aware of any rumors for what Rolex might do to the SD next year? |

Welcome to TRF.
The Seadweller was just reintroduced at the Basel world before last. I wouldn't expect any changes for sometime. |

Welcome! I was back and forth between a Sub and SD4K and ended up with a Sub. Looks like you in Dallas, too. Go check out Eiseman Jewels at NorthPark. They're always super good to me. I can try on as much as I'd like and never feel rushed or like I'm wasting their time.

Yeah...saw this date match at the end of Basel this year and wondered the same thing about Basel 2017...who knows what they'll introduce, but it's a decent bet with the luxury market bent down right now....good way to keep up sales after the Daytona C

Has Rolex ever issued a commemorative watch based on the anniversary of the original? I am not aware of one myself, but would be interested to know the details if such a watch was ever produced.
I realize there are watches made to commemorate events, such as the DSSD D-Blue. But that is different from an anniversary model. |

Good to know...I was also a 1967 baby and have been kicking around what I might get. A birth year Rolex would be pretty cool, too. Although, a 50 year old watch may not be a great first Rolex...

I have both the GMT2c and the SD4k. The BLNR gets a lot of love but the all black GMTc LN is an outstanding choice. I'd suggest you try on both and think real hard before getting your first. But either choice is great. Keep in mind, a GMT is thinner and the SD is a bit thicker. To me the GMT is more legible and comfortable but the glidelock on the SD is a real bonus. Try on both and see where that gets you.
