Starter PP around $20k - suggestions

Thinking of buying a starter PP around $20k. Am leaning towards a 5035G / black face. Any other thoughts?

Look at the Calatrava line, price-wise. Hobnail watches and rather traditional looking watches.

I'm really new to Patek, picking up my first later this week, an Aquanaut. Your choice is a beauty, the complications and dial design. I lean toward white dials for dress watches, black or dark dials for sport watches. Shopping is half the fun, maybe more than half, it doesn't cost anything yet ! Good luck.

I think a Patek Annual Calendar for $20K would be a great buy. With purchasing any pre-owned watch, you have to do your homework and see if the watch comes with an original box and papers or an Extract from the Archives. Knowing service history will be helpful and also if the watch case has been polished. As they say here on the forum, always "buy the seller".

If you are looking for modern watches, several Calatravas, 5167A, or even a 5124 gondola may be options.

Best of luck with your decision!

Looking at pics of various 5035's on line, very nice piece. Usually I prefer indices or markers to Roman numerals when the dial has a number of complications. In this case, the Romans win out. And maybe I'm just a newbie, but PP doesn't use the customary numerals at the Fourth hour position. Is this on all models?

Going againsed the trend here. I tried on the 5035 and it looks small and dated. The 5146 and 5205 are much nicer.
I would say to get a 5196/5296 or a 5711 or save up for something better

Thanks - I have small wrists so not too worried by the smaller size. The VC in my picture is 38.5 mm and looks quite big on me.

Depends what you want..... I went for this. LNIB from an AD and in your budget... Keeping time at +2 a day. Not as sporty as a Nautilus but I wore it into the office today with a Button down, jeans and driving shoes. Did not look out of place.... Nautilus is nice though. If I need a sports watch I always have my 114060......

If you want a sports watch under $20k, I'd go 5167 on rubber. Dress watch, I'd go 5196

5035 was the world's first annual calendar and 'watch of the year' when introduced by Patek in 1996. 20 year anniversary now so I'd expect some increased interest for that reason alone. Prices have been relatively stable for these annuals though and a nice complete example with original papers and packaging should be easily obtainable within your budget.

As for for the Romans at 4:00 it's different with different models. All of the 5035's use the IV whereas most of the dressier pieces use IIII
