Choices, choices .... PP 5711 vs. Rolex 116619
If you had a choice between these two pieces with blue dials which would you choose regardless of price and water resistance ?? And the reasons please. Thanks so much.

I would choose the PP. I don't like any of the current Submariners because of the clumsy big case, and a so-called "tool watch" in white gold doesn't make any sense to me.

You don't like the 5711 so it's an easy choice for you.

Since this is the Patek section, I would imagine most people will choose the 5711.
However I think they are different watches that serve different purposes. I have never been a fan of Rolex sports watches in PM, but I know many people love them for their durability. |

I'd go with the 5711 blue dial over the Smurf. For starters, I'm really not drawn to the Smurf. A tougher call for me would be between the 5711 & the Pepsi. Funny thing is I was never really interested in the 5711 until I had the chance to see one in person at the Vegas GTG. I can say the bracelet is WAY more comfortable than the AP Jumbo. It is definitely on my radar.

5711 blue face without a doubt. One thing that should speak to you is that you will never find a 5711 in the watch case at your AD. While you will most likely find a smurf in every single Rolex AD's display case. They are always available and if not in stock, they can get one immediately.
Having said that, I like the smurf, it's a great watch as well, but the 5711 is more special. |

Choices, choices .... PP 5711 vs. Rolex 116619
I faced the same choice and went with the WG Sub. Here are some reasons:
- I can wear it every day, no matter what I'm doing or wearing - Durability, reliability, accuracy - Can swim and shower with it on, don't have to baby it - Servicing cost and time - Solid gold feels pretty special on the wrist They're both great but ultimately I want something this expensive to get maximum wrist time, and for me the Sub fits that bill better than any. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I actually prefer the 619, but they are extremely different watches. Don't know how you can really even compare the two to be frank.

If you can even find a 5711 (blue), definitely the 5711.
You can always find a (modern) submariner whenever wherever. As in you can always add it later on if you still feel strongly about it. |

Bought both--only one remaining is the 5711. My SD4K fits the Rolex spot better IMO (which will soon be joined by a Daytona-C) My WG sub was flipped towards my 5980

I don't love pcl's on the sub and would be nice to have a sunburst dial to compete with the 5711 dial. Already flipped my 5711, but that said would rather have another to a 116619.

Tough choice. Two very different watches. If you can't swing both. Then it would depend more on your usual dress and lifestyle. The Sub more suited for someone more casual whereas the the 5711 is slightly more dressy and better for someone that wears business clothes daily. Just my opinion.

Top high end SS sport watch, ultra comfortable, super classy, versus, yeah versus a Rolex sub in WG, sure it's the best looking sub, but miles away from any Patek IMO...

That's like comparing a watermelon and a grape...
I love my Rolex, I truly do. But 5711 is so far ahead that I can't even fathom comparing the two. |
