Polishing/brushing tools

Hi folks
What is this guy using 2:30 in to the video and 3:10 when brushing the bracelet?

This video really make me appreciate how intricate it is to properly polish a watch.

you can use 400 grit 600 grit wet sand paper and cut it the size you want. Get at your local hardware store or auto store like auto zone.

I used 400 grit for this project…I polished the whole bracelet then taped of the center links and basically did what you see in the video you posted.

Great work! I do the same but would like to try the softer type that he uses. It looks as it will follow the contours of the links better as they are oval shaped and not flat. And the precision of the tool he uses on the clasp seems better than the sand paper

So with the sand paper, when getting fine grit 400,600,800+ its the same thing as what you see in the video. He uses a vice to hold the watch in place and uses what most likely is wet sand paper to sand the brush the links. You can cut the sand paper to the exact same size of the links and do what he did in the video. Thats how I did this to my watch. IF you watch closely you'll see the sanding of the brushed links in the video is wet. He is wet sanding the brushed links.

If you can't find what your looking for in a jewelry store, this is another option and won't cost but a few dollars.

Cheers

Properly polishing a watch takes hours and hours to learn. I'm currently going through this process.

I'm curious about the metal file used on the clasp at 3:08. It seems to be a diamond file? Not sure but have searched Jules, Caskers, Cousins, Stuller, Otto frei, can't seem to find anything like it.

It seems to lay down a heavier grain than the scotch wheel. Also much safer than the artifex wheel.

I believe they use that file to mach the sanding that he is doing to the outer links. It gives it a brighter finish vs the original rolex finish.

I have files just like those. The one used in the video is something different. Esslinger carries tools aimed at beginners. It's a head scratches when even Jules, Caskers, Cousins, and Stuller doesn't seem to carry anything like it.

Thanks for the tip but not looking for noob stuff. No disrespect
His stripes looks more like sellotape but with grid. The sandpaper rips apart easily and the thicker ones are to thick for getting in between links. At least the ones I've found in Sweden

+1 would like to know the maker of the sanding tape as well. Guaranteed not made by Mitchells.

The 'files' he's using I don't believe to be actual files. They are similar to what I use in my trade to abrade commutators on motors. We call them comm stones. Like a very hard eraser with abrasives. They have a slight flex to them/hard rubber.

I took some print screens. It looks like sellotape on top of sandpaper and then cut to stripes

Yes looks like a diamond embedded file, but very very fine according the grain left on the clasp. I have tried many but nothing that delivers that type of results.

There are some sanding tapes on page 62-63 of the Gesswein catalog. Curious if one of them could work.
