INCOMING... Limited Edition 1 of 5 (So I've been told)

I don't want to use the word grail because IMO that is reserved for an unattainable piece but throughout my short 10 years of collecting watches I think this piece may be very hard to top for Me. It was through dumb luck and daily EXCESSIVE reading of the forums that I came across the availability of this piece. Many, many, Thanks to my friend KarlS for putting me in touch with his AD. If it was not for him there is no way I would've obtained this beauty as it was sitting in an ADs safe sealed and unknown to most. To my knowledge they only made 5 of these pieces. Last year at the London Exhibition Patek re-released several retired models (5970-3970-5070-5050-5059-3940) in very small quantities. NOS movements and cases were used and never before seen dials were made for them. http://www.salonqp.com/updates/watch...on-exhibition/ I always wanted a Patek Salmon Dial and when I read about these pieces on display at the Saatchi Gallery in London over a year ago I was just in awe but figured there was no chance of ever getting one so I didn't even give it a thought. A year later when I had the actual chance to buy it from an AD with my name on the papers and to cut the seal myself I was totally shocked and there was no hesitation in purchasing. Without further ado here is my 3940G-029

The case is 36mm which works well for my wrist. The dial has elements of the 5140 with the small 27 and 5 around the moonphase and the hour and minute hands for this piece are leaf hands which match the subdials when in the past Patek has chosen to use sword hands on their PCs for the hour and minute hands. They have chosen to use square hour markers for 3-5-7-9 which I do not believe has been done before. Also, The movement has the Geneva Seal on it vs the PP seal as this reference was retired in 2007. I also noticed at the bottom of the dial it does not say Swiss Made which I found interesting. My guess is they wanted to maximize the space on the dial and decided to forego that. All of these little details make the watch very interesting and special to Me. Thanks so much to the members of this forum and for those who answered my PMs regarding this piece(especially KarlS). As I have said many times...The only thing better than the watches are the people behind them. The piece came with a nice leather holder for the cert that had my name printed on it and came from Geneva and a very nice glossy photo of the watch on the other side. Also, The AD was kind enough to give me a tie and travel case. It was a very nice touch and very much appreciated. The travel cases in the US are not so easy to come by. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Stunning, i love the salmon dial. I tried it once and was just perfect.

36mm is right for a dress watch, wait and you will see the market going back as sizes

Salmon (and blue) dial is my favorite. Such a beautiful watch! Size is perfect on your wrist. 5 total makes this a real "limited edition".

Congratulations Mike:thumbs:

That is a true stunner, one to be justly proud of owning & wearing.

I was shown one last year when I visited my AD and loved it.

The 3940 is my favourite Patek PC

Nicely done Karl
