Found my watch at AD. Too good to be true??? Advice Please..

I stopped at a small town AD this weekend and found the watch I want, dying for in fact. It is an F series GMTII (I'm not worried about having the 3186 mvt) and they shot me a price I could not refuse. So good in fact I passed it up.........for now.

It is BNIB as far as I could tell, stickers, tags, etc. It had no problems that I could find after looking it over while talking with the rep for nearly an hour (with no loupe). I thought at the time that an F was about two years old but wasn't sure. I finally asked if they had any room to deal, so the salesman went to the owner to see. The owner came over and talked to me, left the showroom and returned about 15 min later with a stunningly low price. I asked to be certain and the owner assured me it was BNIB and stated he will have had it for the second Christmas this year if it didn't sell by then. We talked a bit longer and I got the feeling he just wanted it gone. I also got the impression that he couldn't care less that they are discontinued and becoming more scarce by the day. Seemed he was much more interested in my bird hunting results this season to be honest. I asked to think it over, and they are holding it for me until close of Buis Monday. So, my questions are these:

I just don't see how I could go wrong on this, but wonder..........

The warranty will start when/if I purchase right?

What could be wrong (if anything) that ROLEX won't fix under warranty?

With a potential of being nearly five years old, but still BNIB/NOS would it need service and would they do it under warranty?

I just wanted some of your thoughts and would be very grateful for any response. If I do this deal I will post pics of everything including receipts, because I doubt anyone would believe me on the price without them.

Thanks in advance for any and all thoughts.......

Patrick

I only have one recommendation.

Get your a$$ over there ASAP on Monday and buy the damn thing. My Y series all black GMT-II is going on 5 years without service and still runs perfectly.

Worst case, wear if for a few years and send it in for a service that would likely be a cleaning and relube. Considering the great price you cite, it would still make sense.

Sounds like you're excited. Buy it.

Oh and you are probably getting a good deal bec. you have to take into account that the watch is from a couple of price increase's ago along with a discount from the past retail price...so maybe the dealer isn't really losing money, he's just trying to break even or make a small profit in relation to his wholesale price from a few yrs ago...so i wouldn't feel suspicious of his price...which is...

I agree that it should be purchased if the price is right.

Yeah, I thought about this, and now I know it could be a 2003 watch it doesn't make me wonder as much. They did have the March 2008 price on it though...of course. But the quoted price, I said no one would believe it........4300+ tax.

I believe it. The reason he can get you that price is because Rolex had 3 increases in price since it(F-series) was made. But being its brand new and from an AD, I would still buy it.

Nice...go for it if you like it. Hey, you may even be able to squeeze a little more out of them...just pretend that you are concerned of the watches age and since it's been sitting around for so long you may have to get it serviced soon so an extra couple hundred off would be nice to off set the cost...afterall rolex does rec. a service every 5-7yrs. Of-course I would do this in person rather than over the phone so that if they say no you can purchase it right away and not giving them enough time to change their minds.

FYI, got a brand new Z in Jan 2008 for 4100. The AD probably paid a lot less considering it has gone through numerous price increases. Offer him 3900 and see what he does. Good luck

Welp,

Ran into a little snag here at the house....not that we couldn't.... but maybe we shouldn't right now. Have a sale of my own to make now, but I still have it on hold for another day. Really bummed at the moment, but not losing hope yet. Might be able to pull it off but will know tomorrow for sure. I'll keep you all posted and thanks for the feedback.

Which reminds me of when my brother's English friend came to North Carolina to visit and we invited her to go dancing. She nearly had a heart attack. Seems our popular beach dance here had a different meaning for her.

BTW - the dance is called the shag.

There's a new Pepsi at my AD. I was looking it over and asked what movement it had, and the manager just chuckled. Apparently, he had been fielding tons of inquiries from rabid folks looking for 3186 Pepsi models.

I don't know the exact series, but there's no chapter ring engraving. If anyone wants the name of the AD, PM me.

I wonder what she made of the Mike Myers/Austin Powers movie title "The Spy Who Shagged Me"?
