My Story-Sorry if its too long

Thanks for the warm welcome. I appreciate it. I guess it’s always fun to discuss how one acquires a timepiece that costs several thousand dollars and I will tell you a little story as to how I got mine. (Both of them)

My father, was a General Manager in a large Lincoln Mercury dealership in Florida back when he sold cars to the likes of Muhammad Ali (the great boxer) and Jackie Gleason (the great comedian) Back when times were simple and a Lincoln and a Rolex where the symbols of success and prosperity . He had a Rolex Date Just TT with the jubilee band. It was all fancy with roman numerals and diamonds on the face. I always loved that watch and dad promised that one day it would be mine.

Dad was in his 40’s when he had his mid life crisis and he had taken up a new hobby and her name was Judy. He made a series of mistakes and ended up selling it to make ends meat. His loss was my loss.

Fast forward thirty years and I have working in my career for 20 years. I always told my wife that I wanted a Submariner. I always loved diver watches and the Sub to me was the Holy Grail. I figured when I retire in 9 or so years I would take my savings and get the watch that I have coveted since I say my first James Bond movie, (with Sean Connery.)

Last Year after Thanksgiving dinner my mom, who I loved dearly told my wife and I that she wanted to do something very special for us for Christmas. She said please pick out the watch (to me) and a Diamond ring (my wife) and I insist on getting them for you.
She went on to say that she had just received the results from a series of tests and that she has terminal cancer. She said that this will be my last Christmas with you and want you to remember it forever.

Laura, my wife and I were both shocked at the news. I was deeply saddened as the true meaning of the word had yet to sink in. Mom got sick and my wife and took care of her to the very end and all along she kept asking did you get your watch yet? Well go get it now. So I did. I ordered a Blue TT Sub and I had it gift wrapped. I took it to the hospital and my wife gave it to my mom to see and my mom give it to me on Christmas Morning.

We were all very happy to be there as a family together. (Plus I had a shiny new Sub on my wrist)

Mom died on July the 18th 2008. I will always have the Sub she bought me and I will pass it on to my son as heir to the time piece that I always wanted. That was given to me by my Mom. ( I know that she was happy that she did it because my dad never did)

Now for the Second watch my SS Sub.
A friend, where I work had it since it was new. He paid over 4500.00 from Mayors and he wore it about a 10 or so times. He then sold it to another guy in my office for 4k so that he could get a new 2008 TT sub, which he did.

The guy who bought it was in a bind due to a bad real-estate venture and he sold the SS for 3500 to me . I have the original box, warranty card and all of the accessories. I thought that this thing looks brand new and for that price it was a steal. So I grabbed, it.

And that is the story on how after 42 years I came to own not one, but two Rolex Submariners.

I will get photos up this weekend, How should I do it with a link from Photobucket?

Suggestions welcomed.

Oh and my only complaint with my TT Rollie is that the gold links scratch way to easy.
