Watches at the Dive Show

I just returned from Beneath the Sea, the largest public dive show in North America, where I spent Friday on the floor during set up. Only industry members were permitted on the floor during the day. So what do you think I saw most often?

Here's a hint: Not one single Panerai, and only one gold Sub and one Sea-Dweller.

Did you have the opportunity to take some pics to share with us?

Doxa? I have no idea what real divers wear to be honest. But if they did wear a Panerai I would not want them as my instructor.

Ooh! Ooh! I wanna guess! I wanna guess!

Going with what Peter's said about his diving experience, I'd say Citizen Aqualand, or maybe one of the Seiko lineup like the Black Monster.

There were a few of these, but I saw dozens of Submariners. At least 35 to 40 of them just in the afternoon. One guy was wearing a gilt dial 5512, and I saw another guy wearing a 1680, but the vast majority were newer steel Subs, with a surprising number of TT Subs.

Remember, when I was on the floor, it was only open to members of the dive industry. It's not surprising that professionals in the dive industry, and especially business owners, would be wearing Subs. I didn't stay until the doors were open to the public.

Was glad I was wearing my Ex II.

Ah, I re-read your first post and realised that you said that only 18K Subs and SDs were out of contention, while I assumed that SS Subs were out too. I guess that's why you're the solicitor and I'm not!

The vast majority were 16610's. I only know one diver with a Kermit Sub. He received it as a gift.

As they were working divers, perhaps they were just afraid that they'd be too old and long retired before they could get hold of a kermit at list price

Uh.......maybe. Or it could be that the Kermit's features have little or nothing to do with diving. On the other hand, now that I still can't see properly one month after having lasik surgery, really big markers and a date bubble seem like pretty good ideas.

Best wishes for a swift recovery, must be really frustrating after that long.

Thanks JJ. It's been more than one month already, and my vision is still not where it's supposed to be. It's better than it was, but still blurry up close. It's a good thing I only had one eye done.

How bad were your eyes before you went under the 'light'?

I had mine done about five years ago and I was -6 in each eye, with a minor astigmatism in both eyes. The goal was to get me to 20:40 which is the threashold for not wearing glasses to drive in Ontario. Thankfully I heal really well and my vision has been 20:10 since about two weeks after the ops.

Will you have to go for a touch up?
