What sells faster, Rolex dress watches or sport watches?

Worldwide and in the US? I suppose it varies by region, but overall, does anybody know what the top 3 or top 5 sellers for Rolex are?

I was under the impression that sport watches were by far the fastest sellers for this brand, but the last AD I went to had 2 small shelves of sport watches and about 5x more dress watches on display. They told me that in that particular community, people who buy Rolex buy dress watches. Is this true in a lot of other areas as well?

hard to say. I see lots of DJ with jubilee bracelet everywhere and seems to be much more common than sports models from my own observation

It's not hard to find out.

If we visit a brand-new Rolex AD (Rolex watches only) located at one of the most famous shopping malls in the world (Costa Mesa Mall in California, USA), we only see a small number of sport Rollies comparing to Datejust models.

I did not hear this from someone else. I saw it by my own eyes. However, that AD may not reflect the whole picture, of course.

I believe dress models, particularly the DJ's, are the most popular by far. Most of the people I've seen wearing Rolexes from all the places I've been to in Asia, Middle East, and the US, were wearing DJs.

IMO sports models move a lot quicker, if my AD's window display is anything to go by

Agreed! The TT DJ is reputedly the highest selling of all the Rollies out there.

Got to agree with JJ the DJ is Rolex biggest seller in all varieties mostly to the Asian market.

Yup. Although I have a feeling that sports watches sell much easier on the preowned market.

Although I am new here I have spent many enjoyable hours perusing these hallowed halls and I don't believe I have even seen one photo of a DJ.

Interesting that it is the most popular model.

I bought my TT DJ in 1976 and even at that time it was, by far, the biggest seller. That is why Rolex has so many variations of DJ to cater to this huge market. In this forum, I am not sure the DJ is the most popular one.

I went to a concert a few weeks ago and saw 5 people wearing Rolex's 4 of them had Date Just's and 1 had a Sub. But what i noticed is the people wearing DJ's wear failry old not that it matters, just might be a preferred style.

I think the sports watches sell quicker but the dress watches sell more.

It's harder to spot DJ's, but they are out there. That's why they are so cheap on the used market. I'm looking for a vintage plastic SS DJ, and I am shocked at how affordable they are.

I think it is seasonal, and not annually but by decades. There was a time when the TT Datejust was THE model to have.

I am curious how many original Milgauss's sold, and if that mark has been passed by the current models.

Maybe the DJs are most popular among the non-wis people who just want a nice watch. The WISsier one gets, the more drawn to the sports models? Just an idea. After all, the sports models "do more stuff" with all the extra features. DJs just look pretty and tell you the date and time.

I think there is a considerable element of truth to this. The DJ is an elegant and beautiful watch with probably the most distinguished pedigree in the Rolex line up. But no matter how much I love the DJ I can't help but feel drawn to the professional models. Before I was only interested in the DJ, but my attraction to the professional models as well has started to grow the more I get into watches generally.

Though whether any Rolex Oyster Line counts as a "dress watch" is debatable. Even a DJ is arguably a sports watch.

The line between "dress" and "sport" watches is pretty blurred now. Many wear sports watches for dress occasions and you can play sport or go swimming or diving (to 100 meteres) in a DJ.

The only true Rolex dress watch is probably the Cellini Prince.

The sports watches will always sell more quickly and resell for a higher price because they have tremendous cachet.
