11618ln vs 116618ln
Hi all, I know I will ultimately have to make the decision, but would appreciate some members feedback and experiences. I currently own a 114060 and a 116613lb. I prefer the six digit subs and love all the upgrades. I am currently thinking of adding a solid gold sub and I am finding I like the look of the five digit version better. I just find it a little more elegant and with a solid gold piece, the visual mass/presence might just be a little too much with the six digit version. I recently purchased a 36mm day date for this reason and I am quite happy with that vs the 40mm or DD2
So what do you think? Has anyone had the same dilemma or owned both? Cost is not an issue, so part of me thinks I would be crazy to give up the glidelock and all the upgrades. First world problems I know. cheers

Six digit for me. With thr heaviness of a solid gold watch, I want the best fit possible.

I don't think it makes a difference between a 5 or 6 digit YG Sub - elegance would not be a word I'd associate with a YG Sub.
The glide lock is reason alone to get the 6 digit reference. |

Man that was a first world problem!!!
![]() I think you should go for the latter with the glidelock. It is an awesome watch. I, however, think that since you own already 2 subs, you should try something a bit different. You can find a mint YG Yachtmaster with the blue dial for even less. You get something way less common but still with that diver look. Also, since you mentioned that you wanted something a bit more subtle. I think the size is the same than the 16618. a7ac9546d9e40d66d6f7f7881c75d822.jpg imgrc0068457689.jpg |

6 digit for me all day.
![]() Although I do agree with you on the Day Date. I originally was going to go for the 40 mm and after trying on the 36 mm I think it wears better on my wrist for that particular model. |

I have the classic 16618 and enjoy it. The slimmer case is just more elegant than the ceramic version. Sure, Glidelock has its advantages, but if you don't find yourself needing the adjustment, there is no functional benefit. Also I like being able to easily change out the aluminum inserts. The bezel pearl of the ceramic bezel is fragile and easily damaged. I view it as the Achilles heel of the newer models.

For me the 1680/8 is the only choice!
![]() That said, between the two I would go 16618. Sounds like it is what you want. You should always go with your gut. |

As one of those less refined sorts who really likes the heft on their wrist, and having a bigger wrist with some play in it, the six digit is a no brainer. That said, I saw a guy wearing a five digit gold sub over the summer and it was really cool. I'd agree with person who said it has more character. More versatile too maybe.

I've owned both. The 6 digit is just a much more refined watch in my opinion. I like the ceramic, the glide lock. The biggest difference for me is the brushing on the case. 6 digit matches the direction of the bracelet.
All that being said, the 5 digit can be obtained for about $10K less than the 6 digit. If you really like the 5, that would be a big consideration for me. Both are cool...

For blue the 116618, for black the 1680/8 nipple dial.

I have owned several 116618's and have always enjoyed the upgrades over the 5 digit models. As stated above the Glidelock bracelet is enough but you can add in the case the lume and the ceramic bezel.

Right now, 6 digit. In a couple years, when the 5 digits have started the journey towards vintage stardom, 5 digit for sure.

I would agree that the 5 digit is more elegant with its smaller lugs, crown guards, hands and hour markers. Also, the text is gilt on the 5 digit and white on the 6. Don't get hung up on the bezel - whilst ceramic has its advantages, it also has disadvantages, and unless you are looking at your watch through a magnifying glass or at 10x size on a computer screen, you'll be hard pushed to tell the difference between ceramic and aluminium. They practically look the same on the wrist on gold and TT subs. HTH ![]()

My pref would be the 6 digit, but if cash was a little tight I'd be more than happy to accept the 5.

16618 has a more balanced (sexier imho) case but 116618 has all the goodies and feels heavier and more robust. Plus clasp and ceramics are significant upgrades over the 16618.
If we were talking about 1680/8 with a nipple dial then that would be another story. |

There are certainly benefits both ways. The 5-digit gilt dial and smaller markers are beautiful, but the glidelock is a marvel, the ceramic bezel is awesome, and the overall heft of the 6-digit is impressive. You can't go wrong with either

6 digit by a mile. All the upgrades make it hard for me to ever desire another 5 digit reference. Hard to beat the bigger case, larger plots, AR under the cyclops for much easier reading of date.
