I really enjoyed reading about these dives and could not help but to think of the bravery associated with their jobs so far below the sea. I also really love the watches. It seems that many of the divers have a special bond and the watch definitely adds to the club both as a serious life saving tool watch but also as a badge of honor.

I have heard that Comex still issues Rolex SD - is there anything unique - like Comex dials on current watches issued or are they the standard SD that any of us can buy?

Thanks for the thread.

Sorry comex no longer hand out watches to their divers as they were bought out many years ago and no longer excist.
It was bought by Stolt which in turn amalgamated with Seaway heavy lifting. This then became Stolt Comex Seaway. After that it became just Stolt Offshore. This then changed names to become Acergy a couple of years ago. Which I work for by the way.
Divers did used to get a Rolex off Stolt for 10 years service but this also stopped a while ago.
One of the lads I worked with was due to get his a number of years ago but could not make it to the office because he was offshore so they said they would put it in the safe for him. A few months later he was in Aberdeen so popped into the office to collect it. Unfortunatly it was not there and was given a solid gold tie-pin instead. Needles to say the tie-pin was ceremoniously thrown across the table with the quote "You can stick that up your arse".
Very outspoken bunch diving chaps

Excellent!! Stories like that are always good to hear. They remind me of old war stories I was told when I was young. Thanks for sharing that link.

Henri DeLauze, the former owner of COMEX, purchased a small lot of COMEX Submariners in the late 1990s, which he gave out as gifts and presentation watches. A friend of mine received one as a wedding gift.

I know him too. I served as General Counsel to an organization when he served on the Board of Directors. He was always very cordial and friendly.
