LUME question

LUME question. When I am out in the sun and go into the dark, the LUME is incredibly bright! But it does not last that long. You can still see for some time but the intense "glowing" brightness fades pretty quick. What is everyone else experiencing?

Thanks!

Same on my GMTc. The lume sucks... Especially on the hands. Because they are so thin, the lume is very lighty applied. Much better on my Tudor Pelagos; same lume. Thicker applied probably. Lasts longer.

that's normal for all lume applications, across all brands.
However, when you wake up at 4 am, your sleep adjusted eyes should be able to read the time quite easily.

I have to agree with ASIPARKS on this one. I never have any problem telling the time on my Sub C in the middle of the night when I (unfortunately) wake up. I agree that after some time in the sun the lume is extremely bright and then fades quickly but again, I can easily tell the time in the middle of the night.

Cheers,

Jonathan

I've noticed the lume on my Tudor BB is stronger and (maybe) longer lasting than my GMTc

I love the blue lume but compared to the green lume in the 5 digits, it sucks. Charges slower and fades very quickly.

Agree the Tudor lume is really good. I like the green too.

The lume on the Pelagos easily lasts all night. It actually too bright when I first go to bed if it has been under the lights in the bath vanity.

I find Rolex chromalight pretty good. Glow dimly and last all night. Not a sprinter but a marathon runner.

Hey guys,
Just got my sub c yesterday. I don't have same lume brightness than yours. My lume is kinda fade. I can't even take it in picture with my iphone. Doesn't even show on my phone screen... Called my AD about this issue and he said it's brand new 2017 and was tested before by Rolex which i have no doubt about it. Any idea guys what's happening?
Cheers

Try going outside in the sun for a couple minutes then go back inside where it’s dark. Lume should be very bright, and will fade... Lume typically lasts all night for me and I have no problems seeing the time at 0400

If you want lume--Omega PO is where it's at.

Alternatively you can use a flashlight with a healthy amount of lumen to “charge” up the lume really quick to see if it gets bright.

I think the lume does exactly what’s its supposed to - make the watch legible in the dark. I sleep while wearing a watch (usually Rolex) every night and there has never been a morning when my alarm went off as usual at 5am and I couldn’t read the time. I don’t charge it with a flashlight before bed or anything like that either.

This right here. Very true for me. And my Tudor is much brighter than my rolexes. Wish they’d figure that out

You right. Currently i don't have one but will try that option asap. So basically, the lume charges with sun light. I get it. Do you have any idea how long the lume lasts from one sun exposition?

Great watches, but let’s face it, lume quality is poor... I thought the ceramics were supposed to have better Lume?

Ceramics just changed the color of lume so they can patent the name I believe... Don't quote me on that though...

Out in the sun for a few minutes should give you a decent charge to last through the night, but keep in mind that the line fades rather fast. It'll still shine but not as bright as when you first come out if the sun.

Got it. If it still shines around 4-5am, then it's enough for me.

By the way, how do you wear your rolex? tight on the wrist or with some space on your wrist?
I'm asking this cuz today i decided to wear it well adjusted on my wrist. no room for movement. Find it much better this way.

I wear mine fairly tight... I dont like watches flopping around on the wrist. Most say adjust so you can get a pinky between your wrist and the bracelet not too tight not to loose and leaves room for any swelling of the wrist.

Second that. I saw right away the difference before and after. Feels much better when fairly tight. Do you have solid links? cuz i wonder if wearing it tight could impact on the bracelet making it loose with time. What do you think?

My oldest Rolex was purchased in 2014, so solid links. Don't see any wear / loosening of the links. The train of thought is that if you wear it loose you'll actually cause more wear because the dirt, etc. Can get in between the links / screws and act like sandpaper to wear them out faster... That's a bit of a exaggeration but gets the point across.

For reference I wear mine in the field, camping, hiking, yard work, in the office, etc. etc. Just clean on a regular basis and you'll be fine.

Got it. Totally agree with you. Will definitely wear it tight. Maintenance wise, i'll clean it up with soap and toothbrush - Should be enough.
