"With its highly reliable chronograph and bezel with tachymetric scale, it allows getaway drivers to perfectly measure average speeds up to 400 kilometres or miles per hour, as they evade the authorities," the website says.

I am a little surprised that there isnt a double door system or an armed guard there? Either way, pretty sad situation for the shop.

Strange. I've been to that location and thought they were going out of business to be honest based on their inventory.

Also, they typically would ask for your drivers license just to try on an SS watch. Not sure how this occurred but it is surely an inside job.

"Staff retrieved the watch from a locked safe, and that's when the man grabbed it and bolted, sales associate Matt Ashley told CBC News.

"He must have known we had it beforehand. It's not something you just ask for," said Ashley, whose family owns the business."

I thought it was interesting that they said he must have known they had it. I can't recall ever not seeIng that watch at every AD I've been to.

I have been to this location. They have lost their AD status (I believe last year) so this watch must have been sitting. There is no double door system, as it is in the mall and you just walk in and the Rolex section is towards the back of the store (what's left of it).

Hope they catch this guy though.

Same, I'm shocked there's no "man trap" there. I guess it doesn't always work well for mall locations. They should have a separate area for things over a certain price (like this). Anyway, I hope they catch the guy and recover the watch!

I think that's with the highest retail price plus tax plus whatever they throw in there. $86k is overkill.

The $ 86 k "Heist" could have been an Inside Job. Every0ne on & off duty needs to be interrogated using the "Chinese Water Torture " method

I purchased my first Rolex there as well as my wife's. Have tried that Daytona on several times for fun. Great store and staff, shame it happened. If you need a good deal on Omega it's a great place to shop.

Yea stinks people really need to sink this low for a buck and this case big bucks.

These people are mostly pros and know what places to try this.

I have been to ADs / jewelry stores with a guard at the door and then others that do not.

I recently tried on a RG YM Oysterflex and this AD I could have easily bolted into the mall and about 100 ft away to the door. It's also interesting the placement of these stores sometimes.

Bad deal just makes it that much harder for one of the good guys to come in and try one on.

The robber prevented one potential customer of getting robbed by the AD.

Pure speculation but seems curious that a near bankrupt, dropped by Rolex dealer has stolen what is likely the highest insured value piece in the store by a thief that has an intimate understanding of both inventory and security. Just saying...

Also I suspect the guy in the hat did it.

That is 68k USD conversion. Pretty standard.

IIRC $75K is US MSRP for the non-diamond dial. Maybe the diamond version is closer to $86K...

I tried on that watch at this store a couple of years ago when they still had their AD license. I was shopping for a SubC and struck a nice conversation with the manager. They did not have it on display but had a picture cutout of it in the display. I told her it was way out of my budget but would love to have a look at it - she went to the back and brought it out for me to try - what a piece !!! I even took a couple of wrist shots with it.

Such a shame - the silver lining is insurance will cover it. It has been sitting there collecting dust for at least a couple of years. And yes, it's 86k Canadian dollars ! Crazy !

Is it just me or does the guy in the hat look quite similar to the journalist who wrote the article? :)
