A Fantastic day!

Just home from my 32km trail run (750m of elevation/climbing), my first official big trail run.
Started in a cement quarry, I had my shoes and socks full of that powder. The rest was a good balance between some hardcore forest trail and a bit of asphalt to catch my breath.
The last 5km were brutal, needed my hands a fair bit during a few of those climbs
I took it easy and finished in 3:35:14

This is so much more fun than running on the street, makes you feel ALIVE.

Get out and run guys, even if it's just 20minutes, it is truly the best feeling in the world.

I hope you all had a great day as well

Wow I'm impressed.

I was hiking a trail alongside the niagara river last week and it always amazes me the number of people who run the trail. If they trip, good chance they fall off a cliff into class 5 rapids and die! Blows my mind how they can watch each step and maintain pace.

Is it tough to balance speed while scanning the terrain?

Overall I'd say trails are slower paced than when I'd run the same distance on the road. I really focus on the track and anticipate dangerous spots.
There were definitely some scary parts where one slip could end quite badly. But I also have a pretty good feeling for keeping my pace, so it's not that hard. Just go with your gut feeling, if you feel like slowing down it might be best to just do it.

Marathon in three weeks time, I feel very well prepared, but taking it slow initially.

Nice accomplishment Bas and good luck with your upcoming marathon.

Curious. Do you wear different types of running shoes based on the distance and/or terrain you are covering?

I used to run awhile back (3-5M every other day primarily on the road or at a HS track) and pretty much wore 'trainers'.

Thanks BC

I do indeed wear different types of running shoes, I have two pairs of lightweight asics with good shock absorbtion for the road (one pair for at my apartment and one for back home), And a pair of trail running shoes for back home in the hills & woods. I felt a few slips during the race yesterday so I might need to replace my trail shoes, soles are pretty worn.
