Ruud's F1 Commute

F1 weekend is a mild PITA here because of the road closures and subsequent diversions. Still, not every day you get to go to work on the bus along part of an F1 track. Shame the advertising boards had been taken down already but here's what was left of it this morning

Driving on a track after a race is a lot of fun. Nice line Ruud.

I know it's a mild PITA for you for one week of the year but it's a pretty epic event for the city.

Did you enjoy the race? I recall you'd mentioning you were going to watch it on TV this year.

Ruud...
One memory you can take with you is that you have not just been "at" a famous track, you have been "on" the track!!

How long are you on the bus?

It's only a real hassle going home in the evenings because it adds twenty minutes on my journey as the bus is diverted through Chinatown.

I don't subscribe to Fox sports so missed it all together. No biggie though. I might go again next year, providing they have some decent music acts on. This year was a shocker!

Very true but it would've been so much more fun if the driver had let me drive

My commute is about 17 minutes in the morning because I leave at 0600 when the roads are dead. It's about 35 minutes in the evening, an hour just either side of F1 weekend and about three days in the rain. The roads gridlock in the rain.

Sure is, Tea. I wish they'd bring MotoGP here though. Probably cost prohibitive though because they'd have to cover all the road markings to make them non-slip. And then there's the rain...............

Ok, maybe not

One week only?? SG must be superduper efficient

Albert Park gets closed off about 4-6wks before Melbourne GP and cleanup is about another 2wks after event.

I know. I keep thinking about it.
I'd go and rent a super fun fast car and drive in circles all day

For some odd reason, i remember being super excited to ride at Laguna last year. Non only because it's the "OMG LAGUNA SECA," but also thinking about all the MotoGP legends that rode there and sharing the same track with them.

I know, only a slight difference between Rossi and me :D

The road into work gets closed early hours of Friday morning and reopened early hours Monday morning. My bus is diverted on the way in for three days, Friday to Sunday, inclusive. It's diverted coming back the other way from Wednesday to Monday, inclusive, so six days.

It'll take a week or so to take all the barriers and stadium seating down but the disruption to traffic is quite minimal. It is efficient here, they go at it around the clock like Billy-O
