Do you get comments on your 36mm?
Folks,
I was wondering... For the folks here who wear 36mm, do you ever get comments that your watch is small? The 36mm explorer that I wear is the only watch that certain people says: "that's a really pretty watch what is it?" Or certain people say:"that's a pretty small watch". What is you experience? |

I have a SS DJ. So it doesn't really 'pop'
In the 10 years, I've had it and nearly wear it 95% of the time, I've only had a couple comments. They have to be standing pretty close to me to recognize that it's a Rolex. I have pretty small wrists, so anything bigger than a 36 makes it look like I'm showboating a watch, which is not the case. It fits me perfectly and wouldn't suggest anything else. |

This is the only watch that has ever gotten a negative remark regarding its size.
I don't wear it often, but I love it nonetheless.

My 36mm dd is the only one. And I'm actually leaning to 36 - 40 being the perfect watch size.

on my 7" wrist, i think it sits very nicely.
I've learned with prior watches that 42mm is the absolute ceiling for my wrist. and anything 40mm or below feels and looks right on me. |

No one that I can recall has ever said a 36mm Rolex is too small to me.
A 36mm may feel small initiatially after wearing a 40mm for weeks, but within a few days, you don't notice the difference at all.

I wear a 36mm most days, and have never had a bad comment. Even if I did, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Yeah, a friend of a friend said my TOG looked small and "feminine"
I told him "Your mom said the same thing last night. She kept asking to try it on" |

not to mention, i saw Parts Unknown last Sunday and Bourdain waswearing what looked like a 34mm OPD vintage. He's a tall guy and that watch looked fine.
i may even search for a 34mm AK date since i've always admired that watch. . |

The 36mm TT DJ is probably the most common Rolex on the face of the planet. I've never seen one that was "too small".

I would like to add another criteria to the discussion, the age, I guess older people are more used to this size then younger people... Maybe it has something to do with that...

Been wearing a 36mm DJ for the past 3 years, I wouldn't say its "too small".
I'd say its a really nice size, classy watch. For me anything above 40mm would probably look too bulky on my 7" wrist. |

I think watch size has everything to do with the style of the watch. Sport models fine to be on the larger side... Dress/classy look much better imo on the "small" side of size. For as much attention and discussion as the maxi case gets, I'm surprised the DJ2 or 41 slips by. That's a watch that looks much nicer on the small side.

Great choice. Always amazed when you post pics of this watch. This is the only DD in SS ever produced, right? Don't recall seeing another. Pure class IMO.

I’m 6’, 285lbs, and have a 7.75” wrist. I wore a 90s era DJ for a few months as my only watch and nobody ever mentioned it’s size.
I now wear a Sub but I still have a soft spot for 36mm watches and wouldn’t mind having one again someday, very comfrotable and classic. |

I have been wearing my 114270 since 2003 or so and never got such a comment. Have a 6.75” inch wrist, though.
Best regards, |

I have a 7.25 - 7.5 in wrist, wore a 36mm 16014 for a year or so and now a 36mm 18238 (pics below) only have received (very few) positive comments. As Adam said, if anyone said anything negative it wouldn't bother me a bit. Love 36mm for a dressy style piece and enjoy my 40mm for sport watches.

I will find out shortly as I'm planning to pick up a 36mm Explorer (114270). I want a little smaller piece for a casual weekend watch. Can't wait to join the club.
I think 34 to 36 mm's always look great in vintage watches. |

I'm a big guy with a nearly 8 inch wrist. 34mm is fine, 36 is better. I can wear some of the monster over 44mm watches that are in style but quite frankly they get in the way a lot. 20 years ago I used to wear 30mm watches all the time and didn't think a thing of it but now people think that 30mm is a ladies watch. I see men's watches in smaller diameters described as "ladies" all the time these days.

36 is a large watch for anyone under an 8 inch wrist, convention tells us this for just about 100 years. Due to fashion dictating so much to the millennials, large wrist watches are now du jour! However they largely, are , too large!

Never a negative comment with a 36 or smaller. I’m more apt to think higher of the man with the stones to rock a smaller watch, given today’s trend for larger watches.

36 mm too small?
I still wear my old man swag date just 18k/ss on my 6.3/4 inch wrist, have never had a negative comment, if anything, nothing but positive remarks. Ill bet Tony Soprano never got a negative comment on his President, lol
