My Dilemma, Flip or Keep...

So, I just received my White Daytona C, it's amazing, I love it.

It is still sitting in the coffin, stickers and all... Now, I had no intention of flipping it as I really wanted the watch, but a friend offered me $18k for it. Not even a close friend, more of a friend of a friend who heard I was grabbing one (I wouldn't sell to a real friend bc I'd feel bad on the markup, but an acquaintance, it isn't really an issue for me).

It literally just arrived an hour ago, I put it on, looked at it for a little while, then put it back in the coffin.

IDK what to do... $5,600 won't change my life at all, but turning an almost 50% profit overnight is just so hard to walk away from.

Honestly, I don't know if this thread will provide more clarity for me, I just have nowhere to express these thoughts where people appreciate the watch as much as I do.

Sounds like you want to let it go. I own several watches that have suddenly “appreciated” but I’m not selling because I like them (SD4K, Hulk, vintage 1964 Omega sm300). If it’s still in the coffin, and you aren’t over the moon about it, then sell.

If you like it, keep it. The profit will always be there, maybe not 50%, but it will always be there.

If the money means more than the watch, then flip it. It’s not being discontinued so you can always get another. It’s just a watch and that is a nice profit for doing nothing. I would bet after a few weeks you really would be wishing you made some money while you could since your not blown away by the watch. Your in the honeymoon stage and if you are thinking about flipping, your head has already made up its mind.

Clearly $5600 is insignificant other than the accomplishment of profit %, so if you love it..keep it.

If you're not planning on wearing them, I would let them go to a good home where it will be put to used (hopefully).

Be like everybody else you see posting them up ...

Just sad - Someone who really wanted it could have bought it for MSRP

Sorry just my thoughts

Keep it! So you could sell it for $18000 but could you get another quickly at MSRP? If so then make your profit and get another for $6800. Other than that keep it and enjoy it as it will probably always be worth $12400 or a little more even when the market balances out.

Whenever I get a new watch I can't wait to take the stickers of and wear it.
That you did not tell me you may have some doubts so sell it

Shoot, I would've dropped work and ran to your AD to buy it if you really didn't want it.

You guys are misunderstanding, I love the watch, I’ve put in a ton of work to get it... I’m not posting it on any board either - I had an offer (unsolicited) just pop up to take it with zero headaches for a huge profit. I love the watch, but I also love money, which is how I arrived at this dilemma.

I would flip it because you can always get another one. Sounds like an easy deal and the watch will go to someone who really is dying to have one.

I have the same quandary, I put my deposit in March of 2016 and finally got the call in Oct 2017 so I waited 572 days for my White Daytona C. In between the long waiting time, I tried on a lot of watches and I really took a liking to the 116515 and 5712.

The Daytona C is a great watch but once you sell it, it's going to be hard to get another one from an AD at SRP with your name on the warranty card without a long wait. It's hard to pass up a 50% profit so I feel your pain. Either way you are a winner because if you sell the watch, you pocket a nice ROI. If you keep the watch, you are wearing the best / hardest to get SS Rolex out there today. You are the only one that can make the decision that is best for you.

Don’t listen to the naysayers. $5,600 is $5,600. You can buy your wife something nice, or donate it to charity if you feel so compelled. Sell it if you want to. Keep it if you want. If you put it on the market you give someone the opportunity to buy at a fair market price. And that is a good thing. All these “sad sacks” are simply white noise.

If you are a flipper and you might sell it in the future. I would sell it now.

If you are a holder, I would keep it.

If you love it, I'd keep it. It's only money and that watch is beautiful!

Sounds like you don’t love the watch that much! If you could use the $5k and won’t regret selling it, I say go for it.

I've never bought to flip and don't plan on it. Having said that I can see where you're headed with this.

I suppose anything is for sale at the right price

I’m keeping mine. It’s been over a year and still loving it. I’ve had higher offers than $18k but no regrets about the few grand that may have been gained.

This is a passion - not a business.

To the bold, I really love the watch and want to keep it... In regards to your second point, for most material items it is sad but true. I didn't expect an offer as I did not even think about putting up for sale, but when someone puts the hard cash in your face out of nowhere, it turns into a dilemma.

I've got it back on my wrist and it is just so awesome.

Keep it... I was offered $2k to give up my "allocation" before I even bought the watch... I happily declined and am currently wearing my white dial DaytonaC right now... I can easily still sell it now, but would rather keep it.

i don't think the market will bear this modern Rolex bull run much longer, and its clear your eye wanders.

for reference, see all the other hot watches over the past 10 years that spiked and then came down as the honeymoon wore off with more of the dreaded annual Basel-itis virus kicking in.

Milgauss GV
Sub-C
Exp 42
BB
BBB
Pelagos Lefty
SkyD

there's more, but i'm having cookies, which is distracting me.

sell it for the $18k and grab a 5D with the $5k. a SubLV for essentially $5k in that case that'll be worth $20k in 5 - 7 years. or even a 5d Daytona. park the cash there and see what happens.
