Potentially dumb questions about the Datejust 41

Hey everyone,

1st off, I just recently joined this forum and I'm impressed with the caliber of decorum/courtesy/helpfulness here. Who am I? Basically a kid in his mid-40's who has been a long-time Submariner fanatic. My question is kinda odd so please bear with me... I never took a liking to the DJ until the new SS DJ 41 debuted at Basel last year. Since then it's been on my drool list; it seems my taste is evolving, either that or I'm just finally getting old (ha!).

The thing holding me back is whether or not it's wearable with really casual outfits: T-shirt, jeans or shorts. I'm talking REALLY casual, I never - and I mean never dress up. I rarely wear collared shirts or polos. Any feedback would be appreciated. That damn blue dial haunts my dreams.

If I may throw in a second question, jubillee vs oyster bracelet? Once again, I'm worried the jubilee might bee too dressy with super casual wear, but I could be wrong. I know all of this is subjective, but please indulge me, thanks.

Of course you can wear it with tshirt and jeans or shorts. As far as bracelet I prefer the oyster bracelet.

Sure, wear a DJ with jeans. If you never dress up, I'd agree with Toony to look at the Oyster bracelet.

Im mid 40s too, and in my 30s and early 40s I never could picture myself in a Datejust. That was my dads watch. Wore 16610 and then the 16610LV then. But now I have one because I can now picture myself in one. Hard to explain but you probably know what Im talking about? Anyway you can absolutely wear a DJ41 with casual, I dont know if youve seen the blue dial but its even more beautiful in person. And the oyster is a bit more casual than jubilee. Although my cousin wears a DJ36 with jubilee with jeans, sneakers and he pulls it off just fine. The ONLY time I thought a watch looked ridiculous on someone was President Clinton wearing a Timex Ironman with a suit.

You can definitely wear it casually. I wear mine with jeans and a sweater all the time. The blue is beautiful! Beautiful blue sunburst.

For what it's worth--- I wear a SS DJ II (fluted bezel) with jeans and a t shirt all the time. Oyster bracelet will wear more casual than the jubilee (in my opinion)---smooth bezel more casual than fluted.

I have a TT 41DJ with a jubilee band which I wear almost daily with jeans and a dress shirt or sweater. I tend not to wear it when I’m in a t-shirt, which is why I think you might consider the oyster band, it’s a touch more sporty IMO. You can also choose a black dial or blue SS for even more of a sporty look but it will always look great as a dress watch.

My recently purchased DJ41.....and I live in jeans. I specifically bought the Jubilee bracelet as all my other pieces are on Oyster.

I'm 30 and didn't think a DJ would appeal to me. I've been through SUbC, GMT, SD4000, but earlier this month i was completely taken by the DJ41 when i tried it on at an AD. I never have the need to dress smart, so i too was worried about how the DJ would look. To me this watch goes with everything, i wear it with tracksuits, hoodies, t-shirts etc.. go for it!

You can go more casual looking with the smooth bezel and oyster bracelet but i fell in love with the jubilee/fluted bezel combo.

The DJ41 is the most versatile of the bunch IMO.

Way I see it, you got 2 options...
1. Fluted on Junilee
2. Smooth on Oyster

I would go with 1 if I were you!

My first Rolex was a TT Daytona with black Paul Newman dial and champagne subdials. When I was working and wearing a suit or sport coat every day, it blended just fine, but now that I'm retired, I wear shorts and a T shirt eight months out of the year and jeans and a T shirt the other four. I found that the TT Daytona just felt out of place, so I sold it. Now I'm equally comfortable wearing either the SubC, or Datejust II with anything, even if I had to put the suit back on. I think you'll be fine.

My opinion is you can wear any Rolex .. regardless of model.. with any clothes you want.

Or maybe im just laid back about it.

But no matter what you do.. get an Oyster Bracelet.

the watch is super versatile. can do anything at all. in any iteration.

I too am extremely casual, and these can go anywhere and do anything.

I have both on oyster and jubilee. and being a very casual guy, I still think I would give the not do jubilee.

Blue DJ41 fluted bezel and oyster for me, really preference on bezel and bracelet for each individual. I wear line with suit and jeans as well. Enjoy. You can’t go wrong with any combo IMHO

DJ41 is a great all around versatile watch. Oyster tends to wear more sporty, jubilee will wear a bit dressy. Either can be worn casual, either can be worn formal. Same goes for the bezel. Fluted is more dressy, while smooth is more sporty. I chose the smooth bezel on oyster for myself. Either way, you can't go wrong

Love the oyster/fluted combo. That's what grabbed me (for some reason I always overlooked other iterations until they blasted this combo out in the recent ads).

Do you find yourself weeping at every scratch on the mirror-polished part of the bracelet? I've only owned all-brushed bracelets, so I don't know the agony of getting fully polished surfaces scratched up.

Don’t really look at it for scratches, just enjoy it in the wrist every second it’s in there.

Look, everything will get some minor scratches if you wear it regularly. Enjoy it!

I’m one of those neurotic types who used to constantly scotch brite scratches off of my brushed bracelets. Only recently weaned myself off that habit.

Welcome to TRF. Yes its very subjective but IMO the Oyster, smooth bezel combo is the most casual looking combination. That's not to say you cant or shouldn't wear the others, but it would be my choice based on your style.

The DJ is not a dress watch, it is sort of an in between, so you can wear it with a suit and casual i.e. wearing jeans. A real dress watch is minimalistic on black leather imho.
There are some who say that anything on a bracelet cannot be worn with a decent suit, but nowadays it seem that etiquette is not so much appreciated anymore.
I think owning a Sub and a DJ will make a great duo.

Choosing a DJ is perhaps difficult since they come in lots of different configurations.
For me the main is a fluted bezel, it makes the watch and is the Rolex signature.

Second is that it should come on a jubilee. This style bracelet catches the light beautifully and gives a subtle sparkle in dim light conditions. Apart from that it drapes around your wrist like no other, most comfortable Rolex bracelet without a doubt.
You mention being a little OCD on scratches, with the jubilee you hardly notice these as on a oyster with polished centre links.

Do try on various models, including two tone, before you decide, happy hunting.

Being in the 40ish age group is in my rearview mirror. Regardless of my age I have never worried if my Rolex went with certain clothes, certain occasions, etc., I just wore it. I currently have a DJ41 and love it on a jubilee bracelet.

I was in the same boat but when it came out on the jubilee i had to have it.
So to answer your question of oyster or jubilee, that would be the answer.
And it's VERY much a fantastic looking watch when you are wearing levis, t shirt and sneakers. (have to have the right levis, right sneakers)

I have the blue dial on oyster and smooth bezel; to me this combo is a dressy sports watch; I've worn it with a hoodie and jeans, but felt like my 116600 would have "fit" better.

Regardless, I would wear it with shorts and t shirt

Yeah, I agree with the guys. You can rock that thing with any and all clothing.

Oyster has traditionally been the 'sportier' of the two bracelets, but I think in general the all steel aspect tones down the jubilee quite a bit...and the configuration I'm looking at, the smooth bezel/jubilee bracelet dresses down even more. I don't think you can go wrong with this one.

For those that have one with jubilee, I havent held one yet but was wondering is that new jubilee braclet
kind of tight or more on the flexible side as I dont like stretch.
