It is a lovely piece , but should be an addition to a patek collection, I mean first should have the nautilus 5711 & 5712
Plus a patek pm complication then add the aquanaut 5164 .. but as always been said buy what sings to u

Because it's even better than Jordan Pickford.

And can even go toe to toe with the mighty 5711/1r.

It would prob be my one and only PP if I could only have one.

I have the 5167 and 5711. The 5167 gets worn as my daily and goes under the radar. One day I hope to change it to a 5164 as would love the GMT function!

You should get it because it is one of the best Patek sports watches. It is a great daily watch and so comfortable.

I would get that 5990, it will not make your 5712 redundant. 5990 has the travel time function as well as a chronograph. The only negative feature of the 5990 is the chronograph minute hand is not an instantaneous jumping minute hand like the 5170.

What is the ‘genta heritage’ on the aquanaut - did he design it, also?

its clearly derived or evolved from the Nautilus. Genta didn't design the ROO either, but there is still a design language connection linking it to the RO. Thats my take on that anyway.

I dont doubt its derived - of course there are similarities, the originals were successful designs.

I just am not as familiar with the history of the aquanaut, hence the question.

If I did not have a 5650, I would have kept my 5164. I never have owned a SS Nautilus and to this day do not miss or want one, but I still miss the 5164.

The 5164 looks awesome in person, much better than in pictures. The proportions are just right and the globe-in-globe dial design is aesthetically very pleasing and has a beautiful sunburst that makes the dial "come alive".

No logical reason, when an Apple Watch will do far more for you, and for a few hundred less.

I don’t know. I really like them and would love one. But they are just such a big step up in dollars from a 5167 that you’d probably do better getting a 5167 and Rolex GMT. I did that. And it’s a win.
