Test wore an Explorer for a day

A friend of mine has an Explorer and I asked him to wear it for a day to see if I liked it. He got to wear my WG Daytona on Oysterflex for the day so he was happy. If you are looking for one watch to check a lot of the boxes the Explorer might just be the watch. Casually it looked great. Dressed up it worked too. Easy to read dial. Obviously it’s much lighter than the WG Daytona. My friend purchased the rubber B and Everest bands for it. He prefers the Everest band and that how I wore the watch.

I keep going back and forth between getting one of these and an all-steel silver dial DJ41 (smooth bezel).

Nice band, it's same color with dial.

Can’t argue with that. The explorer is a true classic.

The Explorer is one versatile watch in any iteration.

I'm especially fond of my 114270.

I thought some of you might be interested to hear what my friend thought of wearing the WG Daytona on oysterflex. Here is what he said:

What a great watch. The face is just so nice. It was noticeable the weight difference. I wasn’t used to weight. I guess if I wore it daily it would be “normal”. The oysterflex bracelet is so nice. The fins on the inside worked great. Never felt hot or sticky. Anytime you want to switch again I’ll be happy to do it.

I'm glad Rolex fixed the issues with the Explorer. This newest version with the new hands and, finally!, lume on the 3-6-9, is the one current Rolex I might consider.

36 mm dial is the road to be taking, and as a collection every set requires one, I bought one and have never looked back,

I’m paring down my possessions and a new Explorer is going to be my pick for watches. Thanks for sharing your experience. Great to have a buddy you can trade with once in awhile

Gorgeous piece !

This thing can do it all. I offloaded mine recently because it made sense but it is one I'll reacquire when the time is right.

Explorer fits two spots in the stable; dressy and beater. In fact it’s more of both dressy and beater than my 116710LN,79220r, Tudor GMT,or Speedy Pro.
