Intro and Bezel question

Hello

Purchased my first Rolex last December. A new stainless submariner with a black dial. Crazy story, but I had been thinking about it for quite a while and finally decided on the sub after quite a bit of research. It was a Saturday morning and I decided to call an AD and see if they had one. They did and I went in and bought it. It was as simple as that. I had no idea how lucky I was. No waiting list, just walked in and bought it. And I had no relationship with that dealer whatsoever. Had never been in the store before.

Anyway life has not been the same since and I am now looking for a GMT with the blue and black bezel. Needless to say, just walking in a AD and buying one is not going to happen but I'm really still in research mode which leads me to my question. I've searched the net and this forum and haven't been able to come up with a definitive answer.

Does the reference number etched on the case between the lugs at 12oclock indicate the color of bezel that is original to the watch? At this point in my research I don't think it does. I think it indicates the type of bezel but not the color.

So, how do you know if a black bezel wasn't swapped with a blue and black one subsequent to manufacture?

Kindest Regards,
H

You are correct, the model reference on the case '116710' makes no reference to the bezel.

Your assurance that the bezel hasn't been switched is buying from an AD. It is simply not worth the effort and risk to their account if they are caught.

The black & blue is called BLNR. It’s written on the guarantee card.

So to verify you would match the serial number etched on the case to the serial number on the guarantee card which would have the bezel designation.

Now I understand how important original papers are when buying used.

Thanks......

The blue/black bezel is by exchange only from Rolex. You cannot order it without returning the old bezel so the chances of this swap/scam happening are next to zero. If you suspect the person you are buying from would do this I think you should be buying from somewhere else.

Swapping Ceramic bezels is not simple or cheap. If it was .. there'd be a ton of Ceramic Kermits running around ...

Thanks again. I really don't suspect but just needed an understanding of how to verify. It just seems crazy that the GMT with a BLNR bezel is so available online but not at an AD.

Blnr also has a blue 24 hr. hand with all white script print on the dial. Gmt Ln has a green 24 hr. hand and a line of green script on the dial.

If you are buying one from somebody where you need to ask this question, don't buy it.
