Dial Lume defect/ageing on my 16610!!!

Recently picked up a 16610 (z serial - 2006/7) and noticed a minor defect on the dial.

There is a really tiny crack/gap on the 2 O'Clock lume, and although I am not planning to replace the dial, which I believe could cost $600, I want to better understand what's causing it to crack (unless it's been there since it was manufactured).

Any chance the dial itself will deteoriate further and will develop more cracks? Also have you seen any "not so new" rolex watches develop such cracks?

Looks like more of a defect than an indicator that the dial is aging. If it really bothers you i would get another dial and keep the original.

How did you even notice this? It's SO Small. I'd forget about it, it's so minor.

Exactly. It is quite small and I can live with it.

I was more concerned with the fact that if the dial is indeed cracking/aging and I definitely don't want small particles get into the movement and mess up the watch.

Well, cracked or crumbling lume is definitely a thing that you see on vintage watches. It has to start somewhere, and your watch is no longer "young." Seems like something you could just ask about at your next service, though.

Blind freddie can see it's a manufacturing defect.
There's no crack or bits crumbling appart.
The dial was simply born that way as that lume plot didn't get filled right up.

You see cracking and crumbling on radium and tritium lume because the radioactivity degrades the paint. I have yet to hear of it happening on Super Luminova or other non-radioactive lume. This looks like the paint did not properly fill in when applied, which I suspect was there from the beginning.

I definitely hope it is a defect rather than a sign of aging. As long as it stays the way it is, I will not get the dial replaced (no risk of flakes getting into the movement).

I guess I will make that special trip to RSC next Friday! Wanted to triple check it's safe wearing it without getting the dial replaced.

I agree with it being the manufacturing defect.

Ask a RSC for advice?

They may even replace it.

How did you see this? This is why looking at ANY rolex under a loupe is a bad bad idea.

Surely not this far down the track.
Especially since the OP is not the original owner.
And i doubt it would fundamentally affect the functionality of the watch

Is there any harm in asking?

Clearly a QC issue.

Rolex have protected their QC in the past and a Z is not an old Rolex.

Wow did you really have to magnify this to see this issue?
