Icon7 Brand New 5712 R - 001

I just got this watch as gift from my parents for graduating college. I'm new to watches and know Pateks are a big deal but I don't really like the way it looks. I prefer Rolex/Breitling. How much do you guys think it's worth and I can sell it for? I don't want them to have to return it and hurt their feelings.

Congratulations on your graduation. It’s a shame it doesn’t speak to you as it’s a fantastic timepiece. You’ll easily be able to sell the watch as all the sports models are in demand.

Congratulations for graduating!

In regards to the watch, wouldn't your parents notice either way? I would assume even if you sold it for a different watch, one of these days your parents are going to ask about it.

Thank you! Hahahaha, yeah that's a good point. But just as long as it's a little down the road I'll be able to tell them about how I made a good business decision or something. I did just graduate right? Lol!

That’s an amazing gift and a fabulous watch. Would suggest you give it some time, and see if you warm up to the watch over time. You might regret selling that watch in the years to come if you now decide too quick.

This.

Put it away for a few years. Buy some other pieces then come back to it. If you sell it, you’ll most likely regret it in the furture.

I can trade you for a very newish Rolex that is right down your alley, the SD43....straight up. Its a good deal for you. Let me know, I will personally fly down with the watch for the trade! I also will bring a case of champagne to celebrate your graduation.

Congrats on the graduation. It would be a shame to sell any watch your parents gave you as a gift. There must be some sentimental value to it. Not just that, it is probably one of the best watches in the world to have. If you absolutely hate it, just tell them so you can get something else from them. I would also like to see some pics, it’s interesting they would get you such a watch without knowing if you even liked it in the slightest.

What ever happened to “you never actually own a Patek, you merely look after it for the next generation” ?

Send some pics!

Unless you really need the money, which if your parents dropped $51k on a watch for you I doubt you do, you should keep it. As a matter of fact you should probably cherish it and your parents. But I could be off base because it’s not a situation I can relate too.

Seems weird I know. The 5712R is probably one of the last watches I would gift my graduating kid. A classic like a Calatrava, or a steel rolex or even aquanaut would make sense.
