Swapping a dial in a modern Rolex

Due to office politics I can’t wear a Rolex in the office. Is there any way to swap/ change the dial on a modern/6 digit Rolex? This could be swapping to a Tudor dial, buying a new second dial and having the text “Rolex” somehow removed, or anything. Give me some ideas and advice on how I would go about doing this. It’s sad, but I literarally could change the dial on a solid gold DayDate and be fine, but on the other hand spray paint “Rolex” on a bright red G-Shock and instantly be hassled.

The watch I’m interested in going down this road with is an Explorer 214270, or possibly a Sub C, no date.

It’s the owner thinking that wearing a Rolex “sends the wrong message”. They know nothing about watches. I could honestly wear an AP or Patek that costs more than the entire annual revenue of the company and they wouldn’t bat an eye.

Don’t forget, in California your Rolex gives you cancer too.

Also, please don’t tell anyone I ripped the labels off my mattress.

What industry are you in exactly?

Wow. What a crappy office. Just get another watch to wear to work. Don’t devalue your Rolex to make your office happy. Wear a Apple Watch or something cheap . Save the Rolex for times when judgment won’t be cast on you. Or just tell your office it’s not a Rolex it’s a rollez 100 percent fake !

Put a sticker over the word Rolex... similar to how people cover piercings with a plaster (band aid).
But tbh... I would just wear a different watch.

Shame if it is your one and only and dream piece that you want to wear daily. Strange politics!

Uh. What?

Sends the wrong message? Most people couldn’t tell a Rolex from a Timex anyway so why is this guy being a jackass?

I've seen the same in New York City and London offices. Especially for employees meeting with clients, a brand as recognizable as a Rolex sends a message. Sometimes that message is good ("Behold our successful office!") and sometimes that message is bad ("We take your hard-earned money and buy jewelry with it!").

Rolex can't be the most recognized watch brand in the world without sending some kind of message. If you're in a situation where that message might have negative consequences, you can do what the Op mentions and just wear another luxury brand.

I just checked mine on what message it sends. The response was, "I'm enjoying my short time on this planet and couldn't give a flying crap about what others think."

I love that message.

Sounds like you might consider a change of environment.

Don’t screw up your watch. Get a second watch for the office. A lot of nice watches that don’t say “Rolex.”

I wouldn't even consider changing the dial and devaluing your watch like that. If you're trying to swap a Tudor dial into the Rolex, why not just buy the Tudor for now if you're content to stay in that work environment. Or buy the Rolex and wear a beater to work.

I would definitely not do anything as drastic as swapping the dial in the manner you have described.

I've worn a Rolex at work, or anyplace else. Nobody notices.

Unless you write "I'm wearing a Rolex" with a sharpie on your forehead, who will actually notice? And, when they do, will it last more than 5 minutes.

They must have some good eyesight in your office, most people identify a Rolex by the general look of it, you have to be pretty close to read the text.

Changing the dial is crazy, either wear it regardless or just but a different watch for the office.

Just buy another brand watch. Don't destroy a Rolex just so you don't offend someone at work.

Wear the Rolex to work. Try and get fired so you can at least collect a package. Sounds like a shitty place to work.

There are certain things that meet the Golden Rule. “Those who have the Gold make the Rules”.

It is better for you to wear a Patek at this place you work.

Horrid, don't ruin your piece to satisfy those ridiculous rules. Just buy something else, I would wear something cheap. Or you could wear something overly cheap and crappy to send a better message. what a joke

New job needed! Also I'll get a cheap watch for the mean time. I wouldn't mod my Rolex for some stupid office politics.

I would change your office politics or move office.

This is at my place of work as well. No one cares and if they do, it's like nice watch.

I would use this as a good reason to pick up a nice low key watch that I had always wanted. I would look at Tudor, JLC, GS or even Hamilton as they are making some great watches lately. I get the office piece about a different work environment but that is your choice to make as only you understand the market you are in and your compensation package. Do what is required, smile and get paid until you are ready to move on. Nothing says that it will not be worse elsewhere or at least a different kind of messed up.
