Tudor Sub 7016?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone could help with their thoughts on this Tudor sub?

Looks to be a 7016 with a shield the dialdial, seller states 1968. My concern is the dial looks a bit too clean, could it be an early service dial?

Bracelet looks to be 9315, which is ok? - hard to make out numbers from the photos. *edit: looks like it could be a 7836*

Is the insert a newer replacement? Also what are your thoughts on the case condition?

I'll hopefully be able to have a look at it in person tomorrow and snap some better photos.

Thanks!
Ed

I've always assumed the 7016 to be a Snowflake. But apparently there is a variation like yours.

Insert, case look good.

Thanks mate!

I has the chance for a couple more photos today, but it looks like the lume might be gone? - didn't glow under UV light, only the hands for a brief second.

There is lume on the markers but the dial looks later than other 7016’s, the other dials I have seen have writing under the depth rating. I don’t know what is “correct” but do some research.

That is a 2 line service shield dial. The four liners are legit but confused often for service. Insert is a mark 3 and should be a mark 2 for a 68 usually....what is the caseback date stamp? The shield dials usually have a flake handset or a bubble hand set...
But there are variations.

Sh#t, I did a check. I have a 68 7016 with shield dial and bubble hand. I was confusing the 7928 shield dial. Imho....legit pairing. You are good.

Lovely pieces Gina!

It seems to be a confusing period for tudors. I like this one, now just need to convince the seller to sell it!

Cheers,
Ed

Ed, have a search on the forum - I thought I have seen this mentioned before? Although it was based in Hong Kong perhaps.

Anyway I could be wrong.

It's a transitional 7016 from 1970 or 1971. Not a service one. This dial is visible on the 1970 US Rolex master catalog.
You can see it here on a sample page - 6th picture (catalog on sale) : https://www.ebay.fr/itm/ROLEX-TUDOR-...-/263660455150

I have exactly the same :
