Explorer II discontinued?

From Rolex passion report’s Instagram, just a month after he said the BLNR is discontinued...

That guy is a joke. He lost all credibility doing this stupid predictions.

He just wants to add following numbers to his IG and its working.

He's just going to post every model is going to be discontinued. LOL

From those pictures I really do not like the watch with a Ceramic bezel. Really ruins the look and ruggedness of the watch. The satin bezel really rocks.

Rolex needs to do what they need to do but I love mine as it is, oversized, 'clownish' (as some of the comments I've heard on it go).

All SS sport models have been discontinued for a few months already - well at least in AD's display cases.

I love the Explorer heritage - and I would be back in on the 6 digit incarnations if they got their current pieces off PED's and slimmed down a bit. The brushed bezel is an EXPII hallmark - hope they don't move to ceramic on this reference and mess with the DNA too much. Would be thrilled if Rolex brings back the 1655 aesthetic - with square/stick hour markers instead of rounds and pencil hands iso Mercedes.

As for predictions - well they are like opinions...

Looking at his back and forth with the comments this guy just seems to be on a complete power trip. He’s demanding people who have private Instagram accounts to open them. It’s just weird.

God those EX2 mockups are awful and look more dated then the current model.

Not sure how Rolex will make this one look cool with a ceramic bezel

I guess anyone can make a prediction and as far as the ceramic bezel goes, c'mon now, stop it.

It is an iconic element of the Expl. II - I agree they shouldn’t go ceramic.

It’s a beauty of a bezel and at same time the only Achilles heel. The radial brush finish is easily scratched and smoothed away. It’s also costly in time/effort to properly refinish at RSCs. Lastly, it’s function is severely diminished in the dark - needs lume for the spelunkers.

As a result I do look for a change in the bezel the next time they modify the Expl. II design. But it shouldn’t be ceramic - need something more useful like Ball Watch Co GMT bezel.

Agreed. If he's making an earnest prediction, let him state it as such. This way just sounds like a weird slumber party game he played back in grade school. "What if I told you my farts smell like roses? Would you let me give you a Dutch Oven? Tee hee hee."

Charlatan. From his "prototype" Daytonas to the BLNR bs. there is an ulterior motive with everything he says. he's always trying to hype something because he has a vested interest in doing so. it was vintage daytonas and now it is vintage Subs and claiming Rolex is discontinuing this watch or that watch. he likes to give the impression he is 'connected' but he is wrong just as much as he is right. rolex snubbed him when they created their heritage site without his "expertise," even though he offered it. he spent several days melting on IG over it.

And as for the the Ceramic Explorer II, he has been making this "prediction" for YEARS. You know what they say about a broken clock....

Explorer II discontinued?

I could see Rolex discontinuing the Explorer II for the next couple years, then bring it back redesigned for the 50th anniversary.

Maybe they’ll bring back the classic illegible dial from the first iteration! Non-independent 24-hour band too, so it’s a day/night indicator as originally conceived.

But I think a tungsten carbide bezel would be cooler than fragile ceramic.

With glide lock, small crown... another waiting list!

I personally really hope the explorer II stayed with a steel bezel. There are already enough cerachrom bezels in the rolex lineup already

I think this is a plausible scenario. I've always figured we won't see an update until 2021, for the 50th anniversary. I suppose it's possible Rolex feels the current Exp. II isn't selling well enough to warrant continued production, but doesn't intend to introduce its replacement for another two years. That said, I won't take RPR's prediction seriously unless we start getting a lot of reports of ADs not being able to place orders. Until then, I'm going to assume this is just click-bait gossip.
