Strap ideas for Blue DateJust

I recently purchased a blue dial 116234 fluted on jubilee that I've coveted for a long time. The issue is that now that I own it, it seems a bit too 'blingy' to me. I'm sure it's a mental hurdle which I will overcome at some point but in the meantime I want to tone it down a bit. I'd like some ideas on what straps you think would go well with it. Or if you have pics of your DJ on a leather strap that you could share as well.

This is the 36mm DJ which has 20mm lugs. Ideally I'd be looking for a strap that tapers to 16mm at the buckle end.

Check out Everest leather straps. A tan color always goes well with a blue dial. They also have a black racing strap with white stitching that would work well.

Not a Datejust but the key differentiator for your watch is the blue dial so thought I'd share this as I think it works well:

That watch is absolutely perfect as it is, if you must change it a black alligator strap would be OK. Personally I would not change a thing.

I got a vintage-esque light brown strap with blue threading, which I think compliments the blue dial.

I agree that straps don't look great on Rolex models, it might be due to the long lugs.

I think any black/grey/dark brown or those colors in suedes pair well with the dial. Id check out bulang & sons. Not a fan of natos though

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but that thing is just so gorgeous as-is. I wouldn't touch it. But it looks like you already have lots of great ideas from other (male!) posters. Congrats!

HODINKEE do an awesome grey leather strap that would look amazing. I’d post a link but Tapatalk isn’t letting me right now...

Thanks to those who posted pics of their watches on straps and those who posted some ideas.

I was thinking maybe a brown gator or brown ostrich may look good but I'm bad at visualizing. I kind of like this one but it's an expensive gamble for something I'm not sure of.

I did the same dial but with the oyster bracelet/ smooth bezel. Same look but not nearly as much bling as the blue against the jubilee/fluted.

Is that the 386 or 41mm? Additionally, did you get it at an ad? If so, how much of a discount did they commit to ? Sorry for bombarding you with questions as I too am in the market for a 36m

The jubilee bracelet leaves all of those straps in the dust. The bracelet is an integral feature of any Rolex. I have never seen any strap that complements the watch as well. If you want a leather strap on a watch consider A Lange

leave on the jubilee, is much better and you don't want to scratch the lugs changing the strap.

The fluted bezel will make dressing the watch down a bit more complicated, but a suede or leather band would look great. Everest bands also have several options including some rubber strap designs that others seem to like (I do not have an Everest band myself). It would also be worth looking at hodinkee for strap designed. Another note, Everest has a generator that allows you to pick your watch and give you an idea of what it will look like with the band on it.

The look in the picture with the shirt is fantastic

Hang on to the original combo a little more and you will find that the watch is ideal for both business and casual (tee and shorts)

Much prefer the bracelet to all the straps shown. It's not my watch nor wrist so my preference doesn't really matter. OP, do what works for you!!! I'd normally recommend either RubberB or Everest but neither makes a strap for a modern 36mm DJ.

DJ with fluted and jubilee combo is definitely blingy. U may consider changing to the oyster bracelet

here’s my 1655 on grey suede

I think straps pair well especially on vintage rolex and datejusts. For subs Id stick with the bracelet. I think croc is a bit overkill though, best reserved for a true dress watch
