Jumping Hour

Which models feature the jumping hour function?

Is the alternative to this simply quick date change?

Anything with a 3085, 3185, 3186, 3187 or 3285 movement has the jump hour complication. That includes any GMT II model and any 5- or 6-digit Explorer II.

To set the date you simply have to wheel the hour hand around past midnight accordingly. It takes more effort going from 28 Feb to 1 Mar, otherwise it's not so bad.

Nailed it perfectly. For the second part of your question, yes. The quick set date is the other option.

You have to go back 20 years to find those without the jump hour hand.

Yes, all movements mentioned above jump forward and backward, including moving the date wheel at midnight.
