1991 Rolex Submariner ref. 16610 “COMEX with RSC papers, Pictures, Provenance”

Up for grabs is a Rolex Submariner Date

Reference 16610

N serial number circa 1991 production

Number 63XX

16610 is the last reference number to have the COMEX logo, because the company was sold and Rolex was no longer ordered by them. It is estimated only couple hundred of these were made during about a 9 year production run. This particular watch was issued and used by Guy Bescond, a diver for COMEX and a French national. One of his notable dives with COMEX was the Hydra 10 dive which went down to 701 meters; Mr. Bescond was one of the 3 humans to go down in the bathyscaph. His brief story, along with pictures of him are included with the watch. I have a hard copy to give to the new owner of the watch and can share a PDF to interested parties now. The watch has also gone to RSC in Singapore in 2018 far validation and also to get a new crystal puto on. This is documented with paperwork/receipt.

The watch is in excellent condition given it was actually used a tool. Case is still strong, there are no major dings or dents. Clear numbers.

Dial is original and flawless. Nice patina has already developed on plots. Since these watches needed to work properly, they were regularly serviced by Rolex. This one has had hands replaced and bezel insert to luminova at some point. I felt like this is important to keep as found as its part of its history, instead of swapping for tritium hands/insert.

Caseback is original, sharp engraving of number and COMEX marks.

Bracelet was kept original, Rolex 93150 with correct date code.

The pictures, letter, copy of passport and RSC records are the only accessories found and included with this watch.
