Tax when shipping from Las Vegas / Arizona to Texas

An AD in Las Vegas told me that when you buy a watch in Las Vegas and ship it to Texas, starting in October you will be taxed.
Has anyone else heard this?
Done anyone know if you will be taxed if youwill be taxed if you buy a watch in Arizona and ship to Texas?
I’m looking for a Blusey and am wondering where to buy it from ... an AD where I can continue to get the tax advantage.

There is NO (and never has been) tax ‘advantage’....taxes on and for items (such as watches) is - and always has been required for the state you’re shipping to - or more easily where you live.

Tax is an unavoidable thing - regardless of what anyone says.

ADs ‘save’ you taxes if you’re purchasing a watch out of your home state - but does not alleviate the requirement.

I don't know what if anything is happening in October but in general, if you are shipping out of state, the shipper (in this case the AD), does not charge and collect sales tax unless they have a store or definable presence in the state to which they are shipping. If not, you are not charged sales tax. HOWEVER, by law, you are required to report this purchase when you file your state taxes so from a legal perspective, you are responsible for your local sales tax on your purchased item. Whether or not you report it is entirely on you. This topic has been discussed before.

The AD is correct. A new law was just passed regarding “online shopping” and state tax. I believe Long Island watch has posted a YouTube video on this topic a few months ago.

They started doing that for CA starting in April.

Tourneu has started collecting tax irrespective of where they are shipping from. Fyi. Some others have you sign a waiver... others still tell you its your responsibility

Correct, though it only applies to stores which do above a certain amount in sales in the state to which they are shipping. Can’t remember the threshold .

Do states actually follow up to collect retroactively?

Your supposed to do it voluntarily ;). I’ve heard states do come after you if they do find out somehow.

A new law has been passed to "plug" up the lost tax revenue. You were always supposed to pay the tax in the form of a "use" tax but obviously no one ever did. It will be pretty standard soon across the board. States with no sales tax will be exempt.

You owe the state of Texas, regardless of where you bought it, unless you paid state sales tax there (and it was more than 6.5%).

You used property purchased from an out-of-state retailer. In general, if you purchase a taxable item from an out-of-state retailer without paying Texas tax and use the property in Texas, the purchase is subject to use tax and must be reported. If you paid Texas use tax to such a retailer, you are not required to report the tax. That retailer must provide you with a receipt showing, among other things, the amount of use tax collected. You should retain a copy of the receipt showing you paid Texas tax
