Probable Scammer - blakecarroll

I just want to highlight this before anyone gets scammed.

User blakecarroll listed a 16518 for sale.

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=699823

RED FLAGS.

1) Low post count being a probable red flag, but not always. I have a low post count, but I do a lot of buying and selling. Benefit of doubt given. So I contacted him to find out more about the watch.

2) Stolen picture photoshopped. This is a giant red flag.

3) In my email conversation with him, he sent me a picture of a warranty card dated 2016 instead of the warranty paper. I don't want to go into details, but those looking for this watch should already know why this is a red flag.

4) Photo stolen from bobwatches and photoshopped

5) Asked for a pic of the watch to be set at a certain time. Gave an excuse of not wanting to damage the watch by setting it. 7 hours later, he sent me a pic of the watch but it was in a different box.

6) All in all, the pics he sent to me showed 3 different boxes.

blakecarroll, please feel free to debunk what I've discovered.

Mods, I hope you look into it.

sincerely,
lx384

A quick caution to buyers. If you ask for a watch to be set to a certain time, tell the seller you expect a reply within 15 minutes of your request. If they have the watch with them they should be able to provide that. A common trick is the scammer, once he receives your request for the set time, will pretend to be a buyer for someone selling the same model, and then ask for that watch to be set to the time you requested. He will then simply forward those pics to you, but that whole process will usually take hours as he will have to contact another seller, fake interest, etc.
I agree that asking the seller to set the time on the watch helps, just be careful as the scammers are finding ways to circumvent all the buyer requirements. Just like they are now photoshopping in handwritten userID cards.

Nice work. The increasing number of scams on here is very alarming. Good for each of us to stay vigilant at all times.
