*mods this is not technicaly a rolex question but is technical so move if its in wrong place & oops sorry lol*

i have seen an advert for a divers watch that was "modded" and filled with oil
what is the point of this please?
and has rolex ever done anything like this?
it has got me intrigued as to how it can run submersed in oil?

There are a few watches that I am familiar with that have oil in side of the case. They are generally diver's watches and keep the watch from compressing at great depth. As far as I know Rolex never did a watch filled with oil. They did a Bathyscape in the 50's that looked bizarre but supported the case from compressing at depth.

The oil filled watches are a bit of an oxymoron. The oil is uncompressible supposedly allowing very deep diving (far beyond human limts). However none of them have helium escape valves. Use of them in saturation diving would be very messy

so its only any good for deep sea diving then?

wouldnt it make the watch fail eventualy with the drag on the movement?

They are timed to compensate for having the oil inside of the case. The batteries in the MTM are 10 year lithiums as it is no secret that you are not changing your own battery. I had the MTM and got rid of it as I was getting too many watches. It sure was built rugged.

When I was working in our Oklahoma City location I e-mailed MTM and asked them if we could independently test one of their watches. The special opts navy seal that was rated at 6,600 fathoms (if i remember correctly). We have a hyperbaric chamber that we test our diverter and ball valves in. I asked them if they would send me one and they could use us as a independent test but they never responded. I even called them and they would not even speak with me. I really wanted one of their watches but that turned me off.
