5513 Should the dial and hand lumes age at the same rate?
I have a 1968 5513 that is all original. I am the original owner. The hour and minute hands seem to be getting darker than the dial dots. Is this normal? Would it have an effect on value (I am not interested in selling!)?

I wouldnt worry about value. You'll get a pretty penny for that guy. Yes, some collectors prefer matching lume but it's more important that it's all original. The bezel insert alone would fetch enough cover the purchase price adjusted for inflation...

Normal for many vintage watches. Other vintage watches have matching patina. Luck of the draw (and other factors).
If you're not interested in selling, how the mismatched patina affects the value doesn't matter, but I agree with above: Originality is the most important thing. If you're nutty like me, you could try to track down a set of vintage tritium hands that are a closer match to the dial patina and swap them out. You could keep the originals. Tough road to go down (I've been there), but it's doable if you have patience and the funds. Nice Sub! |

That’s normal if they are original to either age darker or lighter since the lume
is suspended in the hands where light can penetrate and reflect off the dial and not set against a dark dial like the hour plots. If they match too closely, I’m suspect these days. Here’s my Mk4 maxi with original hands, case and dial. |

Some do, some don’t - here are my two 1970s, dials and hands all original on both (with exception of seconds dot on one where lume was cracking)
