Surprise Incoming...

A couple of days ago I posted about whether or not I should get a 15202 and the responses were super interesting, and it got me thinking. I realised that I only wanted a 15202 because it’s THE watch to have.

It is a beautiful watch, no question. And it is the purists choice, but actually, it’s not really me!

I like a seconds hand, I like a watch to be visibly alive on my wrist. I like a casual more rugged look, whereas the 15202 is beautiful and super smart. In every day life I’m typically a black, grey, and silver guy, whether that be clothes, cars, or watches...so as lovely and classic as the blue dials are, it’s not classically me.

So...I reconsidered. And then I saw a watch that grabbed my attention, and impulsively, 24hrs later, it’s on my wrist!

I don’t yet know what this means for my 15450’s and the rest of my collection, that’s for another day. In the meantime, here is my new unworn (until now) full set 15300...

Your thought process was similar to mine, only back when I got my 15300, you actually could get a 202 fairly easily! I wanted the second hand, quickset was a nice feature and screw down crown but the second hand...... I need that. Like you, it shows me the watch is alive! Love my 15300!

I applaud you for making a proper decision, without the insidious influences that can affect all of us, i.e. coveting en-vogue models and fretting about resale values. KUDOS to you! Plus, it's a pretty nice watch :)

Well done you...

Who care's what anyone else thinks, you gotta go with what suit's you best.

I don't think you'll find anyone else here that would complain about your choice, in fact most of us will be jealous that you found an unworn 15300

Bravo, glad you made an informed and well thought out decision based on what's important to you. The 15300 is a great reference and when purchasing my AP it was between the same two. Also, with the 15300 you have future options of changing up the dial if you should so choose.

Congrats again!

Yep I am another one that needs the second hand (or something) to show that the watch is ‘alive’. Also pretty casual as well (though with plenty of blue) hence tendency to go toward ROO and the ceramic bezel.
The ‘400 and ‘500 are too big, ‘202 no second hand so I often look at the ‘300 and say that would be the one if I go for a RO.
Congrats on the choice. Hope it stays for a long time !

Great decision. The 15300 is a classic with perfect proportions, great features and a solid movement with the best rotor.

Thanks. What makes the rotor so good?

Personal preference but my favorite engraving of the Jules Audemars and Edward Piguet family crests in gold. Better than the 44mm ROO with the AP logo and better than the new 15500 more skeletonized rotor.

Great call Token! I think the 15300 has ideal proportions with the dial, case size/thickness and bezel (better than the 450 which I also had and sold). We share similar sized wrists and I now have the 25860 for the best 39mm size. Enjoy it!

I've been following this thread and was really excited to see where you landed. Congratulations, and a great choice. It truly looks fabulous on you!

I've been fighting your battle as I personally have been thinking about a 15450, 15202, or 15300. I'm concerned the 15450 is going to be a bit too small and I need to go and try one on before I make any real decision. I am not getting a 15202 from an AD under any circumstance of reality, and am certainly intimidated by the substantial price premium and am not in a position to just say "oh well if it crashes in price". And, the 15300 seems to be really hard to find these days. Just looking at C24 there isn't anything I see in the U.S.

You mean specifically in blue? If not, there are some on C24 in black or white. One blue for almost 30K.

Yes. Blue dial.

I do see the one listing but I’m always skeptical of “Good” condition. Sometimes people are being modest, and other times “Beat to hell” isn’t a valid option

Yeah, it's not a great listing and the photos look very "enhanced" to show that blue. If that one sells for 30k, I may sell mine.

Thanks all, pretty sure this one is a keeper. So, of my now ten watches, I have six keepers. Progress!! Just now need a grail...but that will take some time.
