Possible Incomming
Got a txt from my AD this morning, saying a black Sub Date came in and it's mine if I want it! I had told him I wanted a hulk, and he suggested he request both a Hulk and a black Sub and see what happened. That was Dec 27th, so it only took a little over 2 months. I do have a short history with this AD -- bought my wife a $18K DJ there in November which I gave to her for Christmas. I'm stopping by tomorrow to decide.
Not sure what to do. I really wanted the Hulk, both because I like the green and because it's "different" -- not the same old black sub that everyone seems to get. But I'm worrying about the Hulk being too flashy/showy, plus I've started liking the YM40 and how it's more "under the radar". I like the Sub history more so than the YM, and I want to own a ceramic bezel watch eventually (I'm collecting different bezels as a theme for my collection). And yeah, "get both", but I'm about to embark on a home remodel so really won't be buying another watch for a while... Any sage advice? -Dan

I would take the black sub, which adds to your purchase history, and tell the AD you still want the green. If you get it, either add to the collection and have both black/green or sell the black at little or no loss, and maybe even a small profit

I really wanted the Hulk.....you don't need advice...Advice is just asking for confirmation of what you already know. You don't need two watches...I have the Sub, it's a great watch, but you obviously want the Hulk. With renos coming and the economy slowing fast...get only the one watch that you want and do your renos...another watch down the road when renos are done and the economy improves. That's just my "Advice"

The hulk is a great watch, but isn't an easy one for some people to dress.

I find it funny when people say same old black sub that everyone has....maybe in the Rolex WIS community that maybe be true....but everywhere? I don’t see them everywhere, I work at a bank that has around 100 employees in our office and there are 6, 4 DJ’s (1 woman) and 2 subs (mine and a bluesy)
Sorry to digress, only get the watch that you truly want, if the black sub doesn’t sing to you no reason to spend $9k, wait for the hulk |

Is “possible incoming” like being almost pregnant?

Granted I do see them and a Bluesy every now and then but not everyone has them... lol Still , get the one that sings to you more. I personally like the classic SubC black dial date . Good luck! |

I’ve never seen a Bluesy on a wrist in the wild before but I did see one on display at an AD a few weeks ago.

Hi Dan, I think your own words may shed some light. With watches, it’s much cheaper and easier to get what you really want the first time rather than settle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Your choice, I'd go with black but if you asked for the hulk then.....

I would never buy something just because it’s different but because I like it and sing to my taste. If you’re having a second thought about the hulk being flashy then be cautious, a sign of no Love is in the air. The Black sub is a classic, a timeless piece that will look so good no matter when and where it’s worn. Some would get the hulk and even if they are not convinced with it they flip it, but that is something I would not do. Buy what you truly love and if you’ll have the opportunity to try them both at the same time then you’ll have no problem deciding on which to take home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I saw the black sub on someone's wrist last weekend and it is truly an awesome looking watch, so much so that it will now probably be me next Rolex in a year or so when I'm ready to get another.
Prior to that I had the same thought process as you, thinking the black sub was standard and maybe even kind of boring and lots of people had them, and that if I were to get a SS sub it would be the Hulk. But now I'm reversed, simply because, like others said, the black pairs with anything, and in person it is a very stunning watch. Still haven't seen a Hulk in person, and I'm sure it is awesome too, but seems like it would be difficult to pair. I love green, but not the easiest color to wear all the time. |
